If you are considering a hotel stay in Tassullo, you can plan your trip around two interests: church and architectural history, or routes through the landscape. The sights range from Gothic forms and a cycle of frescoes to an octagonal tower; outdoors, a circular route through a gorge differs from a route through woods and fields. This makes it possible to decide in advance which themes will guide your choice of stay.

Churches and Architectural History

The Chiesa di San Vigilio di Tassullo is on the road to Campo. Santa Maria Assunta offers a different historical point of interest: its altar was consecrated on 10 August 1101; 66 relics of martyrs and saints were deposited there during the consecration. The church is Gothic, in the Clesian style. Its rectangular floor plan, five-sided apse and Gothic tracery windows give the architecture its distinctive form. The difference between the floor plan and the apse is a useful point of reference if you pay attention to the building’s form during your visit.

The Museo Diocesano di Trento also preserves an element of the church’s history: a former wooden altar is kept there. At Castel Valer, the focus turns to the Chapel of San Valerio. It contains a 15th-century cycle of frescoes by the Bergamasque painters Giovanni and Battista Baschenis. Castel Valer is also known for its octagonal tower: it is more than 40 metres high and is considered the tallest of its kind in Trentino. It can be visited as part of a guided tour, which must be booked in advance. Check the booking arrangements before your trip.

Routes and Landscape

The Cammino Jacopeo d’Anaunia passes through Tassullo and is marked with yellow shells and signposts. The Forra di Santa Giustina, a nature reserve in Trentino that protects the flora and fauna of this habitat, offers a different way to experience the landscape. The circular route through the gorge leads to the remains of the old hermitage of Santa Giustina. You can reach the start of this route by public transport via Tassullo railway station.

The Passeggiata al Roplan leads through the woods around Malghetto di Tassullo and across the fields of Roplan. As trail conditions can vary by season, you should take them into account before setting out. Terraced orchards descend from Tassullo to the right bank of the River Noce, adding another distinctive feature to the landscape.

The two circular routes offer different experiences: at Santa Giustina, it is the gorge and the hermitage; at Roplan, the woods and fields. If you prefer a specific destination, the circular route through the gorge leads to the remains of the hermitage. Anyone choosing a hotel stay in Tassullo can therefore decide first what to focus on during the trip: church and art history, or routes through the landscape. For Castel Valer, booking the guided tour in advance is part of planning your visit; at Roplan, allow for the seasonal changes in trail conditions.
