Discover Stravino: Culture and Routes
Accommodation in Stravino
In Stravino, religious artworks, reminders of local history and archaeological traces sit alongside several named routes. These different points of interest give you various starting points for planning your trip: you can explore wood and fresco art, take a closer look at a historical connection, or focus on the Valle di Cavedine and its archaeological significance.
Wooden Crosses, Frescoes and Local History
Croce Gombet is one of Stravino’s four wooden crosses and is located along the Rogation route. This identifies both the material of the cross and its connection to a religious route. Those interested in religious sites will find a specific point of interest here, distinct from the frescoes in a wayside shrine.
The Capitello di San Rocco features frescoes of San Rocco, Sant’Antonio Abate and a crucifix in its three niches. The three depictions give the iconographic program a clear structure. The history of the village is also connected to the Capitello: it was erected in connection with the cholera epidemic of 1836. The subjects depicted and the historical context tell two different aspects of the same place; the frescoes should not be conflated with the reason it was erected.
A 2021 Ecomuseum archive post records that the Campanò di Stravino is played on Saturday afternoon before Mass in honour of the patron saint. The time and its connection with Mass give this custom a specific religious context.
Routes with Different Points of Interest
The Anello Cavedine–Stravino–Brusino–Vigo route passes Croce Dallapè at Berlonga. Near the industrial area, it passes Croce Gombet. Opposite the entrance to Stravino, it leads to Capitello della Pietà . At Croce Casoleta, the route crosses the provincial road; the cross is at the junction with a country road. This makes it possible to identify points along the route by the different crosses, wayside shrines and a road crossing.
Another route, the Tour of the Valle di Cavedine, passes through Stravino. This distinguishes it from the specific points of interest on the Anello: the tour passes through the village, while the Anello description names several individual waypoints. This distinction is useful when planning your trip and deciding which route best matches your interest in Stravino.
Archaeology in the Valle di Cavedine
The first section of the Cavedine Archaeological Trail runs along the western ridge of the Valle di Cavedine. One of the trail’s points of interest is the Cosina di Stravino, an ancient Bronze Age burial site. Two different aspects come together here: the route along the western ridge and an archaeological site from a distant past. This makes the trail a good choice for travellers interested both in the landscape of the Valle di Cavedine and in its archaeological traces.
The Archaeological Trail, the Anello Cavedine–Stravino–Brusino–Vigo and the Tour of the Valle di Cavedine represent different kinds of routes: a ridge and Bronze Age site, individual cultural landmarks, and a route through Stravino. These distinctions can help you narrow down the focus of your trip without confusing the routes.
