Sagron lies on a hill where the Torrente Mis and Torrente Pezzea streams meet. In Sagron Mis, local history, traces of mining and themed trails offer different points of interest for your stay.

Sagron Mis lies between Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino Nature Park and the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park. From Primiero, you can reach Sagron and Mis via Passo Cereda in less than half an hour. Allow some extra time for the journey, depending on conditions.

Churches, Traditions and Mining History

The Madonna di Caravaggio chapel near Marcoi was rebuilt in 1812. The Madonna di Loreto church near Marcoi was destroyed by fire in July 1793. A new church dedicated to Madonna di Loreto was completed in Salvadori in 1795. These different place names are among the historical landmarks you will encounter when exploring the religious history of Sagron Mis.

The Sagra dei Marcoi takes place every year around May 26; the exact date may vary from year to year. If you would like your stay to coincide with the festival, check the date for the relevant year. This lets you include the annual event in your travel plans without treating its approximate date as fixed.

For a long time, chair makers, charcoal burners, miners and woodcutters lived in Sagron Mis. The Casina, also known as Scudelina, offers another glimpse into the area’s mining history: located at an altitude of 855 m, it served as an old mining base for the Austrian mines of Sagron-Mis. Together, these occupations and this historic base offer two tangible ways to explore the area’s working and mining history.

Themed Trails and Mining Traces

The Intrecci del tempo themed trail starts at Chalet Giasenei and leads through beech and fir forests, partly along old paths and easy forest roads. Along the way, 16 information totems and three interpretive harps share local history. The route thus combines woodland sections with an interpretation focused specifically on local history.

The Sentiero Mineralogico offers a different focus, following traces of mercury and gold mining. At the settlement of Vori, at an altitude of 883 m, a short detour takes you to the entrance of an old gold mine. The two routes therefore highlight different aspects of history: Intrecci del tempo presents local history along the trail, while the Sentiero Mineralogico focuses on mining. As route conditions may change, check them before setting out.

The first stage of the Croda Granda–Agner Wild Trek connects Sagron Mis to Malga Cavallera via the Sentiero delle Regade. The trail is part of Alta Via delle Dolomiti No. 2. This stage offers a different kind of route planning from the two themed trails: it is defined by its section, the named trail and its destination, Malga Cavallera. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

Near Chalet Giasenei, you’ll find Torre T3, a viewpoint with a climbing wall and a telescope for nighttime observation. If you’re planning a visit specifically for these facilities, check local arrangements and current availability beforehand.

When choosing your excursions, you can therefore follow your interests: religious history and the Sagra dei Marcoi offer cultural highlights, while the themed trail and mining traces explore different historical themes. The first stage of the Croda Granda–Agner Wild Trek, in turn, is defined by its connection to Malga Cavallera and Alta Via delle Dolomiti No. 2.
