In Pieve di Marebbe, a long ecclesiastical history, rural settlement patterns and specific routes come together. You can decide whether to focus your stay on historic sights, walks or cycling tours.

Church and historic buildings in Pieve di Marebbe

A permanent spiritual leader in Marebbe is documented from 1214 for the parish church. A document from 1347 explicitly refers to the church as “Parrocchia di Santa Maria di Marebbe”. The present parish church has a Baroque structure and a cruciform floor plan. Its Renaissance high altar also tells the story of its construction: it was carved from wood in 1636. The church is also a popular and well-visited pilgrimage destination for residents of Val Badia and the faithful from Val Pusteria.

In the small center around the church square is Gran Ciasa, a notable noble residence. The name means “Big House”. Another named destination is MMM Corones on Plan de Corones in Pieve di Marebbe. Together, these places offer different cultural points of interest for your trip, from sacred architecture and pilgrimage traditions to a museum on Plan de Corones.

Viles and rural history

La Pli grew up around the parish church. At first, there were only two farmsteads there; the village later developed from this core. Curt, also known as Corte, is a vila with five farmsteads and a small chapel. Particularly characteristic are the 17th-century houses with original portals and frescoes.

Brach comprises four farmsteads and a castle that was inhabited by the nobles of Prack until 1682. The rebuilt castle of Brach can be admired on the way to the vila of Pliscia. Curt and Brach thus offer different highlights: Curt is known for its historic houses, portals and frescoes, while Brach also has a castle history.

Hiking and cycling

The Roda dles Viles circular hiking trail starts in La Pli and follows paths or small roads to the viles of Brach, Ciaseles, Frontü and Biei. This route connects several of the named settlements in a single loop. Another option is the accessible walking path between Brach and Pieve di Marebbe, which offers views of San Vigilio and the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park. When hiking to Plan de Corones, it is also possible to return via the Pieve di Marebbe side.

For mountain biking, the easy, family-friendly La Pli-Track tour is described. It follows paved roads from San Vigilio via the Miara cable car’s valley station and the Plan de Corones road, then continues through meadows and forests to Pieve di Marebbe; from there, you can enjoy wide-ranging panoramic views. The Giro del Plan de Corones, by contrast, is a circular route around Kronplatz, which you can ride clockwise or counterclockwise. Another cycling route leads from San Vigilio through Pieve di Marebbe and continues via Fordora, Cianoré or La Costa, Costamesana and Furcia. Check current route conditions before setting off on a cycling tour.
