Petschied combines St. Nicholas Church with trails along the Rio Lasanca and routes into the mountain landscape. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing the routes by starting point and season: a two-hour walk ends in the centre of Lüsen, while the summer hike and ski tour have different destinations.

St. Nicholas Church and historical traces

St. Nicholas Church in Petschied was first mentioned in records in 1446. Its exterior features a large 16th-century fresco of St. Christopher. A spring rises beside the altar; its water flows through the altar area to an outdoor fountain. The church was probably built on the site of an older sacred spring.

The Gschlierer (Faller) Bühel above the church is another historical landmark in the area: pottery fragments found there have been dated to the Bronze Age, from 2300 to 1000 BC. The Petschied church fair is traditionally celebrated at the end of June with a Mass, a procession and a blessing of the stream.

Walk, cycling loop and mountain hike

The two-hour walk along the Way of the Cross starts in Pezzè (Petschied), follows the Rio Lasanca to the sports area and continues to the centre of Lüsen. The Way of the Cross follows the Rio Lasanca, which is also called the Rio di Luson. Its clear route makes it easy to identify the walk: it starts in Pezzè and ends in the centre of Lüsen.

The cycling loop offers a different route: it runs from Lüsen village to the small Church of St. Nicholas in Petschied and back via the Way of the Cross, the Old Craftsmen’s Zone and the swimming pond. Unlike the walk, it starts in Lüsen village and is a circular route. So, when comparing the trails for your plans, the specific differences are the starting point, mode of travel and route; no duration or distance is given here for the cycling loop.

In summer, a hike leads to the Rifugio Monte Muro mountain hut and continues to Monte Muro at 2,332 metres. The mountain is considered a scenic panoramic viewpoint. In Pezzè, a few farms lie along the road, surrounded by green slopes and dense spruce forests. The road to Pezzè climbs towards Passo delle Erbe; the pass connects Lüsen with the Ladin Antermoia Valley.

Ski tour and cross-country ski trail in winter

A ski tour starts in Petschied/Laseider at 1,430 metres and leads via Gschlierer Alm and Lüsner Joch to Maurerberg. Snow and access conditions may vary. Another route starts near Petschied/Hinterlüsen and follows the valley to Halslhütte; access and winter conditions there may also vary. The two routes can therefore be distinguished by their starting points and destinations, without assuming a particular type of activity for the route to Halslhütte.

A five-kilometre circular cross-country ski trail is located by the sports area in Hinterlüsen. Check its current grooming and operating conditions on site before planning to use it. Snow and access conditions are also part of planning a ski tour. This lets you take the relevant route details and seasonal conditions into account when choosing between the described ski tour, a cross-country ski trail and the route to Halslhütte.
