You can get to know Feldthurns through its hiking trails and cultural sites. The trails offer different highlights: the Panorama Trail winds through meadows and forests and offers 360° views of the Dolomites. The village circuit passes traditional farms and chestnut groves, while the Chestnut Trail section runs via Pardell and Säben Abbey to Klausen. Velthurns Castle and the Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary add architectural and local history to these hiking themes.

Hiking with views of the Dolomites

The Panorama Trail in Feldthurns is an easy hike through picturesque meadows and forests. Its 360° views of the Dolomites make the panorama the route’s defining feature. You can use this character and its easy rating to help you choose. Directions are also provided: from Klausen, you can reach the Panorama Trail by bus no. 343, and from Brixen by bus no. 342. Bus services may change, so check the current timetable before travelling.

The village circuit and Chestnut Trail are distinct

The Feldthurns–Schnauders–Garn–Verdings village circuit runs around Feldthurns. Along the way, it passes Velthurns Castle, traditional farms and chestnut groves, as well as offering beautiful views of the South Tyrolean landscape. Its points of reference are therefore the places and landscape features along the circuit. By contrast, the Panorama Trail stands out for its expansive views and easy rating.

On the Chestnut Trail section from Feldthurns to Klausen, the route itself is the main focus. The trail starts at St Anthony’s Church in Feldthurns, leads via Pardell to Säben Abbey and then descends to Klausen, with scenic views along the way. The named stops make the direction of the hike clear: it runs from Feldthurns via the abbey to Klausen. When choosing between the trails, you can therefore consider the views, the circuit with its farms and chestnut groves, or the route to Klausen as different highlights.

Velthurns Castle and the Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary

Velthurns Castle, also known as Castel Velturno, serves as a museum and event venue. The castle was built between 1577 and 1587 and impresses with its late Renaissance interior. Its panelling, inlays, carved portals and wooden ceilings are among the most significant examples of Renaissance cabinetmaking in the entire southern German-speaking region. As a museum, the castle is open to the public from March to November; seasonal opening hours may change. Check the current opening hours before your visit.

The Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary is the oldest place of worship in Feldthurns. It was built as a small, modest chapel in 1112 and served as a parish church from 1170 onwards. It acquired its present late Gothic form during renovations from 1894 to 1899. The sequence of chapel, parish church and renovation provides a concrete timeline for the history of the village.

Archaeological site and other highlights

The Feldthurns Archeoparc is an archaeological site with burial grounds and remains of pottery production. Alongside the architectural history of the castle and church, it offers an archaeological perspective on the area’s past.

Törggelen is a regional culinary tradition. Törggelen establishments serve homemade farm-style food, new wine and roasted chestnuts. The municipality of Feldthurns also has a public swimming pool. These highlights complement the hiking and cultural offerings with other interests, without being tied to a particular route.
