A stay in Tisens can be tailored to different interests: cultural history, hiking and nature are linked to specific destinations and landscape features. Fahlburg Castle and the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta in Tesimo provide historical highlights; circular trails, vineyards, fruit trees and chestnut trees offer other ways to experience the area. Regional chestnut culture also comes into focus at the KESCHTNRIGGL Chestnut Days. If you are looking for a hotel, these themes can help you choose the focus of your stay.

Historical landmarks

Fahlburg Castle is one of the most beautiful Renaissance castles in South Tyrol. The parish church of Santa Maria Assunta in Tesimo is of Romanesque origin and was first mentioned in 1194. It has stained glass windows from the Augsburg School dating from around 1520. The dates should be clearly distinguished: 1194 marks the church’s first mention, while around 1520 is the date of the stained glass windows. At the church, you will therefore encounter both an early written reference and a later-dated collection of artworks.

Circular trails with different characteristics

The “Tisner Gall” circular trail starts at the parish church in Tesimo. It follows trail no. 13 past Zwingenburg Castle in the direction of Caprile. Check the route details locally before setting out. The “Sentiero panoramico circolare” is a very easy hike above Tesimo, with beautiful viewpoints on Monte di Mezzo di Tesimo; trail conditions here can also change.

The two circular routes differ in their type and orientation. For the Tisner Gall, the specific reference points are its starting point at the church, trail no. 13 and the direction of Caprile. The Sentiero is described as a circular trail with viewpoints. This can help you decide whether to follow a route with named waypoints or include a very easy loop with views in your plans.

Landscape, grapevine and chestnut culture

Tesimo-Prissiano lies on a sunny high plateau above the Adige Valley and is surrounded by vineyards, fruit trees and chestnut trees. Small natural havens, meadows, forests and numerous biotopes add to the landscape; the natural areas are suitable for nature-focused hikes. Alongside the historic buildings, a variety of landscape features are therefore also a central part of the experience.

At the foot of the manor house grows the indigenous South Tyrolean Versoaln grapevine: it is over 360 years old, covers 300 m² and grows over a traditional pergola made of chestnut wood. The chestnut is therefore present both as part of the vegetation and as the material used for the pergola. At the KESCHTNRIGGL Chestnut Days, the organisers introduce visitors to regional chestnut culture and its traditions. The seasonal event has a 2026 edition; check its dates if you would like to plan your trip around it.

Practical planning tips

The Kneipp facility is located by the stream in Prissiano and is run by the Tesimo-Prissiano Tourist Association. If you would like to include the facility in your plans, check visiting arrangements in advance.

The Alto Adige Guest Pass may be relevant when planning your transport: guests staying at participating accommodation establishments in the Tesimo-Prissiano holiday area receive it free of charge and can use it for free travel on public transport throughout South Tyrol. The specific establishment must be a participant. Check this requirement if you would like to include the pass in your plans.
