The beach, various water sports, a former tuna fishery and traces of Roman production offer different focal points for a stay in Alcamo Marina.

Beach and Water Sports

Alcamo Marina beach is close to the Zingaro Nature Reserve. Various water sports can be enjoyed in Alcamo Marina. If you are considering both the beach and sporting activities when choosing a destination, these offer two different starting points for planning your trip.

The Tonnara and Roman Remains

The former Tonnara Foderà di Magazzinazzi is located on the Lungomare of Alcamo Marina, in the hamlet of Magazzinazzi. The Foderà family built it at the beginning of the 20th century; under Law 10891939, it is classified as a cultural asset worthy of protection. One of its warehouses houses a small museum with explanatory panels. The tonnara’s marfaraggio includes historic boats and a net system. Its construction date, museum and marfaraggio offer different insights into the site’s history.

The Roman past is also represented by tangible traces of production: two Roman-era kilns were discovered in Alcamo Marina. A Roman production facility in Alcamo Marina operated from the late 1st century BC to the mid-5th century AD. The site included workshop areas for different production lines, as well as storage and temporary storage areas; at least 15 kilns are believed to have been associated with it. Its long period of operation and the different work and storage areas paint a picture of versatile production over several centuries. The tonnara marks a much later historical period: its construction at the beginning of the 20th century came many centuries after the end of the Roman production phase.

Coastal Nature in the Surrounding Area

In the vicinity of Alcamo Marina, along the Torrente Molinelle, remnants of scrub vegetation including Juniperus turbinata are found and are considered worthy of protection. This specific plant occurrence adds a botanical aspect of the surrounding area to the themes of beach and water sports.

Seasonal Offerings from Centro Asia
