When choosing a hotel in Godrano, the town offers several specific points of interest: church art, the memory of Padre Pino Puglisi, museums devoted to agro-pastoral culture, and trails through the landscape. You can plan your stay around culture, nature, or a combination of the two.

The Church and the Memory of Padre Pino Puglisi

The Church of Maria Santissima Immacolata has a large painting at its main altar. A wooden statue of the Immaculate Conception stands against the right-hand side wall of the nave. Another statue, the Addolorata at the foot of the Cross, stands in the last chapel on the left-hand side of the nave. This offers an opportunity to view several specific works of art and their different locations within the church.

Padre Pino Puglisi’s time as parish priest is also associated with Godrano: From October 1, 1970, to July 31, 1978, he served as parish priest of the church dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. The “sulle orme di Padre Pino Puglisi” museum collects records from his life in Godrano. Before visiting this museum, check how to access it.

Museums: Agro-Pastoral Culture and Personal Testimonies

The “Godranopoli” demo-ethno-anthropological museum reconstructs typical ways of life in the agro-pastoral culture of Palermo’s inland areas. It also includes traditional craft workshops. The “sulle orme di Padre Pino Puglisi” museum focuses on something different: It collects records from Puglisi’s life in Godrano. These two themes offer different ways to explore the town’s cultural history.

Information about opening days and visiting hours for “Godranopoli” is available on request. Obtain this information before planning your visit.

Pond and Protected Area

Gorgo Tondo is one of the best-known natural or semi-natural ponds in the Bosco della Ficuzza, and is also known as Gorgo del Drago di Godrano. The Bosco della Ficuzza, Rocca Busambra, Gorgo del Drago and Bosco del Cappelliere Nature Reserve protects the landscape of Rocca Busambra, the forests, natural ponds, and the wildlife populations there. Visitors interested in nature and scenery will find a different focus here from that of the churches and museums.

Trails with Different Levels of Difficulty

An uphill forest road leads from Godrano towards Gorgo del Drago. If you come from Santa Barbara, you can continue on foot towards Ficuzza and reach the turnoff for the path to Pulpito del Re on the paved road between Bivio Lupo and Godrano. Another described route begins at the Giardino della Memoria in the municipality of Godrano. It passes through mature cork oaks and downy oaks before reaching a forest road that leads to the Valle Agnese plateau. Check local trail and road conditions before setting out.

The route to the summit of Rocca Busambra is demanding: Few trail markers, difficult trail conditions, a steep ascent, and a hard-to-follow path characterize the route. It is suitable only for experienced hikers or those accompanied by specialized guides. Confirm the conditions before beginning the ascent. These requirements differ considerably from those of the routes around Godrano described above.

The “Matrimonio all’Antica” Procession

During the “Matrimonio all’Antica” procession, men and women in historical dress parade through the streets of Godrano alongside riders and festively decorated Sicilian carts. If you want to plan your trip around this procession, check in advance whether and when it takes place.
