Uras lies at the foot of Monte Arci. Archaeological structures, a small specialist museum and local traditions give the destination a variety of cultural highlights. The landscape is also part of this picture: it ranges from the mountainous setting of Monte Arci to the plain surrounding Uras.

Nuraghi and archaeological orientation

From the town, follow the S.S. 131 south; after about 800 metres, the Sa Domu Beccia complex is on the right. It has a large main basalt tower surrounded by a triangular defensive wall with two additional towers. A second outer wall, also featuring towers, completes the complex. Thus, the archaeological site comprises not only the main tower but also the surrounding defensive structures. The various elements give Sa Domu Beccia its multi-part form.

As you enter Uras via the southern exit of the SS 131, the Nuraghe Bentu 'e Crobis is immediately visible. It is considered a starting point for visiting the surrounding sites. Together with Sa Domu Beccia, it is another point of reference for visitors interested in the Nuraghi and the area’s archaeology.

Museum and archaeological and nature trail

The Museo mineralogico e paleontologico di Uras is a small museum of mineralogy and palaeontology. Visits are arranged by telephone and by appointment. The museum’s focus on mineralogy and palaeontology complements the architectural history of the Nuraghi, offering another way to explore Uras’s cultural and natural heritage.

Another archaeological and nature option in Uras is the Su Cugiau de Linnas trail. If you plan to include it in your itinerary, check the current trail and access conditions beforehand. This will help you plan your tour around the conditions for your visit.

Landscape and connection to Monte Arci

Uras lies on a plain crossed by several streams. Some parts are used for agriculture, while others are covered in Mediterranean scrub. At the foot of Monte Arci, there is also an archaeological connection: the largest of the obsidian deposits active during the Neolithic was identified at Roja Cannas. This deposit links the landscape of Monte Arci to a specific archaeological topic from the Neolithic period.

From Uras, the route to Monte Arci follows the turn-off from the Strada Statale 131 south of Oristano, then the 442 through Morgongiori towards Is Benas and the forest workers’ base. Thus, for regional orientation, the listed waypoints include not only Uras but also the turn-off south of Oristano, Morgongiori and the direction of Is Benas.

Grain and local traditions

The Sa Coxina Antiga festival is dedicated to rediscovering grain cultivation and aspects of rural life in the past. At the festival, women and men from the Pro Loco of Uras present malloreddus made entirely by hand. They are made with semolina from the Capelli wheat variety and water. Alongside the archaeological sites, agriculture and the preparation of a local food are also in focus. This gives you another perspective on Uras: the area’s cultural history encompasses not only buildings but also grain cultivation and rural ways of life.
