Torre Del Pozzo: Coast and History
Accommodation in Torre Del Pozzo
Torre Del Pozzo combines a coast shaped by limestone cliffs with Is Arenas beach, views extending to Capo Mannu and historical landmarks from widely separated periods. The La Balena dive site offers another perspective. When looking for hotels, this overview can help you explore the destination according to your interests: coastal scenery, history and diving reveal different sides of the place.
Limestone Coast and Views
The headland of Torre Del Pozzo, also called La Balena, dominates a stretch of coast consisting mostly of limestone cliffs. The rocky character is therefore not limited to a single point, but shapes the description of the coastal area. From Torre Del Pozzo, views extend to Capo Mannu. This vista adds a specific landmark to the rocky coastline and offers a different perspective on the landscape. The name La Balena also appears in the name of the dive site, where divers enter the water from the shore. Landscape and activity thus offer distinct points of reference: the limestone cliffs characterize the coastal area, while the dive site provides an entry point and an approximate depth profile.
Early Settlement and Torre Su Puttu
Sa Turre de Su Puttu, a settlement dating to the early Neolithic period, the 6th millennium BC, is located on the headland. Torre Su Puttu dates from the 16th century. These dates therefore mark distinctly different periods in history: an early settlement and a much later tower. To understand Torre Del Pozzo’s history, it is therefore necessary to look beyond a single period. If you take an interest in both archaeological settlements and historic buildings when you travel, you will encounter two distinct points of reference here. Together with the coastal landscape, this perspective adds the area's history to the picture of the place.
Is Arenas and the Bathing Water Measurement
Is Arenas beach, also known as sas Renas, stretches for almost six kilometres and is bounded to the north by the point of Torre Del Pozzo. Its approximate length gives you a sense of the scale of the beach; the northern boundary identifies its connection to the headland. A different length measurement applies to the TORRE DEL POZZO bathing water area in Cuglieri: the 2024 register lists this area as 1,684 metres long. The almost six kilometres of Is Arenas and the 1,684 metres of the registered bathing water area refer to different names and should therefore be considered separately. For current seasonal information about bathing water, check the latest water management updates.
La Balena Dive Site
At the La Balena dive site, divers enter the water from the shore. The maximum diving depth is around 12 to 14 metres. This range indicates an approximate upper limit, not necessarily the depth of every individual dive. The entry point and depth are two distinct features of the site. When planning, take sea conditions and safety requirements into account, and check them locally.
