There are also waves that attract kiteboarders and windsurfers, as well as excursions to the island of Isola Mal di Ventre. These different themes can help you decide what you want your stay to focus on before comparing hotels.

Beach and wetland

Cala Saline is an almost 2 km-long beach of very fine quartz sand. It stretches from Putzu Idu to Mandriola. Behind Putzu Idu beach lies the Sa Salina Manna wetland, covering an area of about 65 hectares; seasonal water levels may vary. The almost 2 km refers to the length of the beach, while the approximately 65 hectares refers to the area of the wetland—two different measures of the landscape. Together with the nearby ponds of Pauli Marigosa and Pauli Mesalonga, Sa Salina Manna is part of the Natura 2000 Site of Community Importance “Stagno di Putzu Idu (Salina Manna e Pauli Marigosa)” (ITB030038). Sa Mesa Longa is also in the locality of Putzu Idu.

Water sports and facilities

The waves at Putzu Idu often attract kiteboarders and windsurfers. A raft rental service with a skipper is based in Putzu Idu and offers excursions in the marine protected area and to the island of Isola Mal di Ventre; confirm availability before booking. The island can be reached from Putzu Idu in half an hour, although the duration may vary depending on conditions. There are food and drink facilities on the beach in Putzu Idu, and you can rent beach equipment in town. Check that both services are operating seasonally before your trip.

Torre di Capo Mannu

Torre di Capo Mannu was probably built between 1572 and 1577 as an observation and signal tower to protect the salt pans and the many tuna fishing installations. The tower offers an excellent 360° panoramic view. After driving through the center of Putzu Idu, you can reach the tower from Sa Marigosa via a signposted narrow road; by vehicle, you can get to within about 300 m of the tower. Road conditions may change; check access before your visit.

Getting to the beach

The route to the beach starts on the SS 292 at the entrance to Riola Sardo. From there, continue for 2.3 km, then turn toward Putzu Idu; after another 11 km, you will reach the beach. The directions use different landmarks: for the beach, it is the SS 292 at the entrance to Riola Sardo; for the tower, it is the route through Putzu Idu and the road from Sa Marigosa. If you plan to visit both, keep the two routes in mind separately.
