Oggebbio lies on the shores of Lake Maggiore, directly beside the mountains. The lake and mountain landscape form the town’s natural setting. There are also specific themes to consider when planning a trip: routes for outdoor activities, the gardens of Villa Anelli and the parish church of Gonte. These distinct highlights offer different points of reference for planning a stay in Oggebbio.

Nordic walking routes and walking trails

The Nordic Walking and Nordic Trekking Park comprises nine routes specifically created for Nordic walking and Nordic trekking, spread throughout the Oggebbio area. Many of these routes can also be used for easy walks. This means there are two different ways to enjoy them: you can plan a Nordic walking or Nordic trekking outing, or consider one of the routes suitable for walks. In addition to the number of routes, their distribution across the area is another factor to consider when planning time outdoors.

Villa Anelli: garden and camellias

Villa Anelli was laid out as a romantic garden in 1872 by Carlo Berzio, a Milanese nobleman; its design was inspired by the aesthetics of the sublime. The garden covers 5,000 square metres, lies on both sides of a stream and has numerous terraces with stone walls. It brings together a historical design concept and a distinctive layout. Oggebbio’s particular microclimate favours the growth of camellias. Villa Anelli’s collection comprises 500 plants from 318 spring-flowering varieties, 40 winter-flowering varieties and 30 botanical species. The different flowering periods offer plant enthusiasts a seasonal comparison, while the botanical species provide another perspective on the collection. A schedule is available for public openings on spring weekends. Check the garden’s website for opening times before your visit.

Parish church of Gonte

The parish church of Gonte has three naves, and its ceiling is covered with frescoes depicting the life of Jesus. “Three-nave” briefly describes the layout of the church interior and explains its architectural form; the frescoes, in turn, present a religious subject. The church also houses a crucifix created in 1712 by the Milanese sculptor Pietro Frasa. Its bell tower is 42 metres high and the tallest in the Alto Verbano. While the architectural form and artworks describe the church itself, the tower’s height also allows for comparison on a regional scale.
