Discover Tigliole: Art, Churches and Walking Trails
Accommodation in Tigliole
If you choose Tigliole as your destination, you can plan your stay around specific themes: the Centro Recupero Fauna Selvatica di Asti, circular walks, or art and churches. The details about the town help you distinguish between nature visits, hiking and culture, and base your plans on specific visitor routes, trails and sights.
Wildlife Centre and Visit Planning
The Centro Recupero Fauna Selvatica di Asti is located in Tigliole and operated by the Asti branch of LIPU. Since 1997, it has been a centre for the rescue and rehabilitation of wild animals. The centre offers guided visitor routes, accompanied by volunteers. As tour arrangements may change, check them before your visit. The centre can be reached by private car or public transport. The San Damiano and Baldichieri railway stations are two kilometres from the centre.
Walking Trails: Length and Surface
Tigliole has several circular walking trails created by the town council, ranging from 6 to 21 kilometres in length. This range helps you compare the distances involved. The Cammino Romanico Tigliole starts at the town hall car park and leads to the parish church of San Lorenzo. The Percorso Giallo is defined by its surface: it runs along paved roads, unpaved tracks and paths. For planning, the circular trails’ lengths and the Percorso Giallo’s surface descriptions offer different points of reference. This lets you gauge the routes by distance and, for the yellow trail, also take into account the types of terrain it crosses.
Art, Churches and History
The site where the Palazzo Comunale now stands was once occupied by the fortress of Tigliole. The town hall houses a permanent contemporary art exhibition featuring works by 24 artists. The artists donated the works and had previously exhibited in the Romanesque church of San Lorenzo. The town hall exhibition can therefore also be understood in the context of the artists’ earlier show.
The ceiling of the parish church of Santi Giovanni e Lorenzo was decorated with frescoes by Paolo Gaidano in 1892. The Santuario della Madonnina di Vulgo Scapenzo also has its own building history: an older church in Caspedengo was destroyed at the end of the 18th century, after which the sanctuary was rebuilt. Together with the former fortress on the site of the Palazzo Comunale, these landmarks offer different historical perspectives on Tigliole, from the development of a religious building to the artistic decoration of a church.
A Hiking Day on a Set Date
On Sunday, 25 May 2025, the Proloco of Tigliole organised walks ranging from 5 to 30 kilometres as part of A Spasso per Tigliole. At that time, the event had been held for nine years. The distances given refer to that edition. If you would like to plan your trip around a hiking day, check the dates and routes for your chosen travel period.
