Monale – Puppets, History and Hiking
Accommodation in Monale
There are several ways to plan a stay in Monale: MuBuM focuses on puppets and themed rooms, Castello Scarampi combines medieval history with views of the Alps, and the 8BM stage offers an opportunity to spend time outdoors. The work “Vesod” adds an image and an intended message of solidarity to these themes. You can therefore shape your plans around culture, architectural history or physical activity.
Puppets and themed rooms at MuBuM
MuBuM displays more than 600 puppets created by people from the region. The museum has four themed rooms: the room of the travelling puppeteer, the room of whispered stories, the room of shadows and the room of wonders. Each room offers its own experiences and workshops. The titles give the rooms different thematic focuses; together, they provide a thematic framework for the puppet collection.
Advance booking is required both for individual visits and for guided individual visits. Arrange your appointment directly before your trip. This way, you can take the required booking procedure into account when planning, rather than treating the visit as a spontaneous activity.
Castello Scarampi: Alpine Views and History
Castello Scarampi is an imposing medieval structure offering magnificent views of the Alps. Its history also includes a clearly dated turning point: in 1305, the castle was destroyed and rebuilt by the Asinari family. The building and the event offer two different ways to engage with the site: the view looks out to the Alps, while the year and family name place a specific historical event in context.
If you would like to include architectural history in your trip as well as the museum, the castle offers a different focus. The rebuilding forms part of the recorded history of the medieval structure; the year 1305 refers to its destruction and rebuilding.
The work “Vesod”
“Vesod” depicts a large, pointed shell embracing Monale. The work was intended to convey a message of solidarity. The image and its message can be considered separately: the shell describes the form depicted, while solidarity is the intended message. In this way, “Vesod” adds a work with its own visual motif and an idea that goes beyond its form to the museum and architectural history.
Planning the 8BM Stage
The 8BM stage from Valleandona to Castellero/Monale is accessible year-round. Spring and autumn are preferred; in summer, it is advisable to choose cooler times of day. The season and the time of day are two separate planning considerations: spring and autumn are the seasonal recommendation, while the summer advice is to choose more pleasant times of day.
The terrain also varies: the stage follows unpaved roads, trails and asphalt. It is suitable for hiking, families, mountain biking and horseback riding. The same stage therefore combines different surfaces with a range of activities. If you are deciding between cultural activities and outdoor exercise, these details offer practical guidance: museum visits must be booked in advance, while the stage is accessible year-round and comes with seasonal planning advice.
