Vignale Monferrato: Discover Art and Culture

Art and Architectural History

Palazzo Callori was built on medieval foundations. The Casa di Luciano Serpentello offers a different kind of design: its exterior surfaces are covered with numerous clay moulded panels in various sizes. Rows of brick fragments coated with cement mortar separate the panels; they bear reliefs of numerous objects. The different sizes and the rows in between form a distinctive pattern of surfaces and reliefs.

The Chiesa della Beata Vergine Addolorata is also among the art sites described here. An undated fresco was uncovered on its right-hand wall in 2006. The fresco depicts a Madonna and Child seated on a throne and is known as the Madonna del Latte.

Art Trails and Cultural Routes

Gianni Colonna’s “Giorno Notte” art trail runs through the town centre, the outskirts, and to the old rural parish churches in the Vignale area. The trail’s sign is located at the edge of Piazza del Popolo, in front of Palazzo Vitale. Signage may change; if you plan to follow it, check the sign on site beforehand if needed.

The “Carlo Ferraris” cultural route is dedicated to historian and Monferrato enthusiast Carlo Ferraris. The “Il Monferrato degli Infernot” loop trail is described in terms of its terrain and traffic: it follows paths and paved roads with very little traffic. As trail conditions can change, check the current situation before setting off if needed.

Views, Festival, and Local Traditions

The Infernot can be accessed via Belvedere Melvin Jones. From there, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the rolling hills of Monferrato and the arc of the Western Alps.

Since 2015, Vignale Monferrato has been the venue for the Vignale Monferrato Festival. The programme varies from year to year. If you want to plan your trip around an event, check the specific dates. This keeps the festival’s history part of the town’s character without assuming that a particular programme will be on during your travel dates.
