Bacchetti is one of the rural settlements of ancient origin that border the hilly area of Silvano d'Orba. At the same time, the town is considered a historic area for the production of Dolcetto d'Ovada. This gives you two concrete perspectives to consider when planning your trip: the history of rural settlement and winemaking. The routes to and through Bacchetti also help situate the town geographically.

Winemaking and rural character

The vineyards of Cantine Gandino are located in various areas of Silvano d'Orba, but mostly in the locality of Bacchetti. This identifies Bacchetti as the main area, not the only location of the vineyards. Together with its historic designation as a production area for Dolcetto d'Ovada, this connects the town's history with the specific distribution of the vineyards. For travellers interested in winemaking, these are two distinct but related points of reference.

Routes to and through Bacchetti

Various routes lead from Silvano d'Orba to Bacchetti on foot or by bicycle. One route runs from Silvano d'Orba via Pieve, Bacchetti and Setteventi to the strada costiera. The first statement describes the connection and names the modes of transport; the second shows the order of the places listed. This distinguishes a general connection to Bacchetti from a route with several stops.

A specific distance is given for the sixth stage, Silvano d'Orba–Castelletto d'Orba: 7 kilometres. In the route table, the junction with the Strada comunale dei Bacchetti is at kilometre 2; the relevant section is marked as unpaved. Bacchetti itself is listed at kilometre 3, and the following section is paved. These kilometre markers are reference points along the entire stage, not the distance to Bacchetti. If you plan to use this stage for a tour, check the current trail conditions: the surface information is a guide to the route described.

Cultural events and festival history

On 8 July 2023, the book “La sagra del Dolcetto dei Bacchetti” by Giampiero Pesce was presented at the Corte di Padre Dionisio. During the FAI Autumn Days on 14 and 15 October 2023, the walk “Passeggiata tra Castelli, Pievi e Vigneti” was organised from Silvano to the Pieve along the strada della Costa. The two events represent different formats: a book presentation was scheduled for July, and a walk with named places and a specified route for October.

The Festa del Dolcetto was held in Bacchetti until the early 2000s and attracted many lovers of good food and wine. This earlier festival period provides a different time reference from the two specific events in 2023: here, the focus is on a festival that took place further in the past, while those events were a book presentation and a dated walk.
