The Chiesa di Sant'Anna is located in Contrada Sant'Anna in Frosolone and is a subsidiary church of the parish of Santa Maria Assunta. In Frosolone, centuries-old scissors- and knife-making crafts meet a landscape dotted with small bodies of water and the cheese-making traditions of Caciocavallo, Scamorza and Pecorino. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, you can weigh the church's local history and these other interests separately.

Churches and centuries-old crafts

The Chiesa di S. Maria delle Grazie is on the eastern edge of Frosolone's town centre. It dates from the 15th century and was expanded and decorated in 1533. The Chiesa di Sant’Anna, in the Contrada of the same name, belongs to the parish of Santa Maria Assunta.

Scissors and knives are part of a centuries-old craft tradition in Frosolone. Visitors can watch local craftspeople forge these tools at a hot forge. If you would like to include this experience in your travel plans, check in advance whether it is taking place on your dates.

The knife-making tradition in Frosolone's town centre

The Museo dei Ferri Taglienti is in the historic centre of Frosolone. It houses hundreds of historic items from local knife- and scissors-making, as well as military blades donated by heritage authorities in the Marche and Lazio regions. The museum also includes a crafts workshop. Ask about reservations and demonstration times before visiting. Towards the end of the 19th century, the trade employed hundreds of people in Frosolone; in the first half of the 20th century, there were around 80 workshops. The Fazioli brothers received a silver medal at an arts and crafts exhibition in Naples in 1828. In July 1907, a cooperative for worked steel was founded.

Landscape and climbing crags

Frosolone's meadows and pastures are dotted with numerous small bodies of water. The landscape around Frosolone also features steep rocky slopes, pastures, small lakes and woods. A specific point of interest for climbers is Morgia Quadra, a natural climbing crag a few kilometres above Frosolone, on the minor road to the distinctive Sant’Egidio chapel.

Cheese-making traditions and Molise cuisine

Frosolone's cheese-making traditions include Caciocavallo, Scamorza and Pecorino. Milk processing, craftsmanship and long ageing in the fresh mountain air shape these products of local cheese-making. At the Casetta del Pastore, cheesemakers turn their cows' milk into tasty, natural dairy products. One experience described in Frosolone includes preparing and tasting typical Molise polenta with pork ragĂą. If you would like to plan this experience for your stay, check in advance whether it is available on your dates.
