Monvalle lies on Lake Maggiore. Different themes can guide your trip planning: trails and landscapes, churches with varied historical connections, and local events. Depending on what interests you during your stay, you can focus more on nature, history or local cuisine.

Nature Trails and the Lake

The Percorso Natura is a circular route for exploring the Monvalle area. It runs along the lake and through woods, with views of the Varese Pre-Alps along the way. Water, woodland and mountain panoramas are all part of the same landscape. If you want to explore the surrounding area as well as the lake, this trail offers a specific way to experience Monvalle’s natural side.

The Sentiero del Verbano is the main route of the Vie Verdi dei Laghi. Unlike the Percorso Natura, which is a circular route for exploring Monvalle, the Sentiero is defined by its role within the Vie Verdi dei Laghi. These are two distinct trail connections: local exploration and the main route of this offering.

Spiaggia del Gureè has several visitor services. If you plan to use a particular service during your stay, check in advance whether it will be available when you visit.

Churches with Different Historical Connections

The Chiesa dei Santi Nazaro e Celso is in the hamlet of Turro and existed before the 13th century. Despite later changes, its interior retains a simple Romanesque appearance. Here, an early origin meets an understated interior, while the building’s alterations are also part of its history.

The Chiesa di Santo Stefano Protomartire has a different historical timeline: the present-day church replaced the old parish church from the 13th century, which was demolished in 1970. The present-day church preserves an altarpiece from the 17th century that came from the former parish church. The work thus connects the church to its predecessor, even though that building no longer exists.

Events and Local Cuisine

At the Palio dei Rioni at Camping Lido di Monvalle, competitions and sport are part of the event, as are opportunities for neighbours and different generations to meet. The programme therefore combines sporting activities with community gatherings.

The traditional Pizzoccherata takes place on Saturday evening and officially opens the weekend of the Fiera dell'Agricoltura. The Fiera is a market event featuring local agricultural products, a food stall, games for everyone and a country-style menu. The weekend therefore features both the culinary opening event and the market and entertainment offerings.

Getting There and Choosing a Hotel

Monvalle’s railway station, Stazione di Monvalle, is on the Novara–Luino railway line. If you plan to travel by train, check the current timetable.

When looking for a hotel in Monvalle, consider what you want to focus on during your stay: nature trails and the lake offer a different emphasis from the churches or local events. If a particular festival is a key part of your trip, check its dates before setting your travel dates.
