Montù Beccaria combines winegrowing with architectural history. The town lies on a hill about 300 meters high and stretches along the banks of the Torrente Versa. Rows of vines define the area; winegrowing is its main activity. The hill and the Torrente Versa characterize its location, while the vine rows and winegrowing reflect its agricultural focus. When choosing your hotel, you can consider whether you want to devote your stay mainly to wine culture, historic buildings, or both.

Winegrowing, varieties, and tastings

The local wine tradition is reflected both in the wines produced and in specific names. DOC wines such as Bonarda-Croatina, Barbera, Riesling, Pinot, and Moscato are produced in Montù Beccaria. Cantina Storica Montù Beccaria was founded in 1902. Fratelli Belcredi offers guided wine tastings. Azienda Agricola Il Poggiolo is based in the municipality. The historic cellars preserve large wooden barrels that recall the winemakers’ work in the past. A visit may include tasting a glass of must. The guided wine tasting at Fratelli Belcredi and the possible tasting of must in the historic cellar offer two different ways to explore wine: one focuses on wines, while the other features a glass of must in the setting of the cellars’ former winemaking activity.

A dated edition of Agosto Montuese

The 2026 edition of Agosto Montuese ran from August 16 to 23 and included the 60th Mostra dei Vini. The program featured meals served at the tables, as well as open-air concerts. This edition thus combined the wine presentation with food and music in a program held on set dates.

Church, Castello, and Castellazzo

The parish of San Michele Arcangelo was established in August 1303 by Pope Boniface VIII at the request of Count Manfredi Beccaria. The parish church of San Michele contains two paintings attributed to Gaudenzio Ferrari, as well as a Baroque-style altar. Alongside its earlier founding history, these works and the altar draw attention to the church’s art and furnishings.

Castello di Montù Beccaria is considered the town’s most important historical and artistic landmark. At the hilltop Castellazzo complex, little remains of its original function as a fortification. Most of the surviving buildings in the complex belong to a college built by the Barnabites in the 17th century. Here, the former defensive function and the surviving buildings of the Barnabite college stand side by side as distinct aspects of the area’s architectural history.

Teatro Dardano

Theater history is also among the town’s cultural themes. Teatro Dardano is considered one of the oldest theaters in the Oltrepò. It was restored and returned to its former function. It adds a distinct theater connection to the area’s church and architectural history.
