Historic residences, sacred art and routes through the centre give Nigoline Bonomelli a variety of character. When planning your trip, you can choose between the architectural history of individual palaces, the Chiesa di Sant’Eufemia and two ways of exploring: a walk through the historic town centre and a stage of the long-distance Via delle Sorelle hiking trail.

Historic residences and their architecture

Palazzo Franceschetti in Nigoline di Corte Franca consists of several buildings enclosed by a perimeter wall, forming a kind of small village. The rooms are decorated with paintings, and terracotta floors and wooden ceilings shape their character. The estate also includes a large park and several centuries-old trees. At Franceschetti, therefore, the walled complex of buildings, the interiors and the park are distinct aspects of the estate.

Palazzo Monti della Corte is a 17th-century residence in the historic centre of Nigoline. Its atrium with portico is supported by columns with Tuscan capitals. Large vaults and three bright arcades define the building; the arcades open onto an extensive landscaped garden. While the walled group of buildings and interior features stand out at Palazzo Franceschetti, the atrium, arcades and garden shape the architectural impression at Monti della Corte.

Palazzo Monti della Corte can be visited for events and during special openings organised by the Associazione Dimore Storiche Italiane. Check the opening arrangements before your visit.

Palazzo Torri was first built in the mid-17th century and is associated with the Federici della Corte family. Paolina Calegari wanted to turn the house into a cultural salon. Notable figures hosted at Palazzo Torri include Giuseppe Zanardelli, Giosuè Carducci and Antonio Fogazzaro. Here, the building’s history and its connection to a cultural meeting place complement each other.

The Chiesa di Sant’Eufemia: architectural history and visual art

The Chiesa di Sant’Eufemia stands on elevated ground on a hill in the Iseo Lake morainic amphitheatre. It was founded in the 8th or 9th century as a small single-nave oratory. A pictorial cycle was created in the presbytery in the early years of the 16th century. Individual scenes depict the martyrdom of Saint Euphemia and the Passion of Jesus. The church thus brings together an early founding period and an artistic programme from the early 16th century.

Distinguishing the town walk from the hiking trail

The birthplace of Monsignor Geremia Bonomelli is part of the walk through the historic centre of Nigoline. Contrada del Torrazzo is an old medieval town centre and leads to the ascent of Monte Alto. The Via delle Sorelle is another route to consider: the third stage of this 130-kilometre hiking trail passes through Nigoline. These offer different starting points for planning your trip—a walk around the town, the ascent of Monte Alto and a stage of a longer hiking trail.

If you are looking for a hotel for a trip focused on culture or hiking, these highlights can help guide your choice of destination: residences and sacred art offer a different experience from a town walk and hiking trail. For Palazzo Monti della Corte, check in advance whether it is open during an event or special opening.
