San Pietro D'olba lies at the confluence of the Orbarina and the Orba. Its riverside setting, historic routes, and preserved buildings give the place several distinct points of interest. When planning a stay, you can focus on the river landscape, the remains of the Ferriera, and the religious and archaeological traces. These aspects complement one another but belong to different subjects: the natural environment, historic routes, and architectural heritage.

River Landscape and Historic Routes

The village is a crossroads of ancient routes that run along the two rivers to Passo del Faiallo and the Beigua Massif. The “Dal Passo del Faiallo a San Pietro” route follows an ancient path to San Pietro. While the first description summarizes the routes along the rivers and their destinations, the second identifies a specific connection from Passo del Faiallo to the village. Together, they present a wider network of routes alongside a specifically named trail.

Another feature of the surrounding landscape can be found nearby: at Lago dell'Antenna, on the provincial road between Vara Inferiore and San Pietro d'Olba, outcrops of rodingites and eclogites within serpentinites can be seen along a stretch of about 500 metres. These geological outcrops add a distinct natural point of interest to the village’s river and route connections.

Churches and Historic Buildings

The historic centre is grouped around the Church of San Pietro. The Church of San Pietro Apostolo and its rectory are classified as protected immovable cultural property; the church also houses a valuable organ. The Oratory of the Immaculate Virgin and the Holy Apostles James and Philip was built between 1721 and 1731 and restored in spring 1999. The two dates refer to different periods: the construction and a later restoration.

The ancient Ferriera was already in operation in the 16th century. Two stone arches are visible following their restoration and are in good condition. Part of the entrance to the Maglietto remains, while the Maglio is preserved underground at its original location. In Borgo della Ferriera, a large stone bridge with three arches crosses the Orba. It adds another structure with a direct connection to the river to the remains of the Ferriera.

Archaeological Traces and Views

Near the first houses of San Pietro lies the Pietra delle scodelle: a large, whale-back-shaped boulder bearing a series of engraved cup marks. The rectangular depressions are cautiously attributed to the same period as comparable depressions at Bric della Langa, the Metal Ages. The archaeological dating is explicitly tentative; by contrast, the rock’s shape and the engraved cup marks are described in concrete terms.

Above San Pietro d'Olba stands the ancient Cappella della Montà, notable for its round shape. From the chapel’s churchyard, you can see the piazza, the Ferriera, and two bridges over the Orba. Vegetation and weather can alter the panorama. The view thus brings together several named landmarks, while the chapel’s shape remains a distinctive feature of the building.
