Culture, landscape and asparagus history offer different perspectives on Tavagnacco. When planning your trip, you can therefore consider which themes you would like to shape your stay: historic buildings, walking trails or the annual Sagra degli Asparagi.

Villa di Prampero and Historic Buildings

Villa di Prampero is a complex comprising a villa with side wings, several outbuildings and a family chapel. It is believed to have originated in the 17th century; its present architectural form dates from a renovation carried out between 1875 and 1877. The villa contains frescoes that can be dated to the 17th century. The grounds include a landscaped park with fountains, ponds and grottoes. The building thus brings together several aspects: the layout of the complex, the development of its architecture over time and the design of the park.

The Chiesa di Sant'Antonio Abate has its own building history. The first building dates from the second half of the 14th century. In 1579, after a fire caused by a lightning strike, the church was completely rebuilt; the bell tower was erected in 1790. These dates mark three distinct stages: the original construction, the rebuilding and the erection of the tower.

Village Layout and Distinctive Architectural Details

Via Matteotti preserves the urban and architectural layout of a rural village in Friuli. Some building façades along the street are protected by the Soprintendenza. This applies to individual façades, not to the entire street as a whole. Another specific architectural detail can be seen on the façade of the Vaccaro house: a winged lion bearing the date 1556.

The municipality also includes a place with its own history of remembrance: in the hamlet of Adegliacco, which belongs to the municipality of Tavagnacco, there is the only war cemetery in Friuli. It is a British cemetery containing Allied dead from the Second World War.

Asparagus Tradition and Festival

White asparagus cultivation was introduced in Tavagnacco almost by chance in the 19th century. The first Festa degli Asparagi di Tavagnacco was held on 19 May 1935. The Festa includes an asparagus exhibition and a competition among farmers from Friuli and Veneto for an award for the best producer.

The Sagra degli Asparagi takes place every year in April and May at Parco di Tavagnacco. The historic date of the first edition and the event’s annual recurring period describe different aspects of the festival: its beginnings and its current place in the seasonal calendar. If you would like to plan your trip around the Sagra, check the specific event dates in advance.

Cycling Route and Walking Trails

Different kinds of outdoor activities are also described. The Cormor cycling route passes through Tavagnacco. On the hill known as Roccolo, walking trails cross meadows, vineyards and mixed oak and chestnut woods; from there, you can enjoy a view of the Cormor valley. The cycling route and the trails on Roccolo offer different experiences: one focuses on a cycling route, the other on a walking landscape with named natural features and views of the valley.
