Camporosso In Valcanale combines hiking with a clear cultural and historical focus: the Sentiero del Pellegrino starts in the village and leads to Monte Lussari, while the Antiquarium explores the Roman history of Camporosso and the Valcanale. There is also another route into Val Bartolo, as well as cycling and leisure activities nearby. If you are looking for a hotel, you can weigh up these highlights to decide whether your trip should focus more on a mountain hike, local history, or both.

Hiking from Camporosso

The Sentiero del Pellegrino starts in Camporosso near the “Alte Hutte” restaurant. It follows CAI Trail 613 to Monte Lussari; the route is listed as taking about 2 hours and 30 minutes, with an elevation gain of 950 metres. You can use the approximate duration to plan your time and take the elevation gain into account as a separate planning factor. Trail conditions may vary, so it is worth checking current conditions before setting out.

Another hiking route leads from Camporosso into Val Bartolo. This gives you two different directions to choose from: one route leads into Val Bartolo, while the Sentiero del Pellegrino leads to Monte Lussari. For general orientation, Camporosso also has convenient connections to the cycle path and the Monte Lussari area.

Cycling and nearby activities

Camporosso is also a starting point for a cycling tour. A tourism report dated 17 September 2021 describes a route that starts here and follows the Ciclabile Alpe Adria towards Laghi di Fusine. This is a different way to experience the area from exploring its hiking trails. If you plan the tour, check current route conditions.

Nearby, the Telecabina del Lussari drops passengers off just a few metres from the village. It operates seasonally, so check the timetable for your travel dates. Also nearby, in Tarvisio, the Dell’Angelo Fun Area includes a zipline and a bike park. Its seasonal operation may also change.

Further afield in the region, the Puanina Tour combines a relaxed mountain trek with a tasting of the authentic cuisine of these mountains. Here, movement is accompanied by a culinary element. The activities nearby therefore differ not only in what you can do, but also in whether a tasting is part of the excursion.

Roman history and the village setting

The Antiquarium di Camporosso is located in Camporosso at the Vicinia’s premises. It documents the ancient history of Camporosso in Roman times and bears witness to the presence of the Roman Empire in the Valcanale. A Mithraeum has been reconstructed there using finds from the 2nd to 4th centuries AD. Dedicated to Mithras, the room gives the Roman focus a tangible connection to the objects on display.

The Pieve di Sant’Egidio was founded by Otto of Bamberg. Otto served as bishop from 1106 to 1139. Another feature of the village is the Filare di peri di Camporosso - Tarvisio: along Via Stazione stands a row of 51 pear trees. It adds a different note from the Antiquarium’s Roman history and points to a specific feature of the village along one of its roads.

A legend associated with the sanctuary on Monte Lussari begins in 1360 on Monte Santo. According to the legend, a shepherd from Camporosso found his sheep there kneeling before a juniper bush, as if they were praying. The setting is nearby Monte Santo; the story offers another, religiously inspired perspective on the area around Camporosso.
