San Valentino can be explored through three very different themes: Villa dè Peteani - Rigatti, with its architectural history and park setting; the community theater “Terra di Racconti”; and a hiking route through the agricultural landscape, past churches and springs. This distinction is helpful when planning a stay: the villa and theater represent the area’s architectural and community history, respectively, while the route focuses on waterways and the landscape. This way, you can choose your accommodation based on what you would like to make time for in San Valentino.

Villa and Park

Villa dè Peteani - Rigatti is in the center of San Valentino, on the road connecting Aquileia with the municipality. It stands at the eastern edge of a large park featuring valuable centuries-old standard trees. Two different spatial settings thus shape the estate: its location in the town center and its transition to the park landscape. The villa was built around 1780 by the noble Peteani family of barons, originally from Venice. The construction date and the family’s origins provide a specific historical context, while the standard trees draw the eye beyond the building to the park. If you are interested in San Valentino’s history, the villa offers a clearly identifiable point of reference; the route through the surrounding area has a different focus.

Community Theater and Local Tradition

“Terra di Racconti” adds a community cultural theme alongside the architectural history. The 2026 municipal notice describes the project as a community theater held every summer in San Valentino; individual performances and venues may vary. Residents of the surrounding area perform as actors. The stories and characters presented are connected with local memories and traditions, and the project is open to the entire community. Check the specific performance dates for the summer in question. Unlike the villa, the theater focuses on the community’s shared stories of local history.

The “Mostra regionale delle pesche,” a traditional exhibition of peaches from the surrounding area, is also part of local tradition. It offers a distinct focus alongside the theater and architectural history: the local produce takes center stage. As dates may vary from one edition to another, check the relevant event announcement if you are traveling for this occasion.

A Route Between Water, Countryside and Churches

The route “Tra corsi d’acqua, campagna e chiese” starts at the parish church of San Valentino. From there, it leads through the agricultural landscape and past churches and springs. One notable point is the Bojon di Baiutti, the largest spring source of the Tiel River. The route then follows the “Morto” canal to San Valentino and returns to the parish church. It therefore starts and ends at the same church. The route offers a different way to explore the area than visiting the villa: instead of focusing on a single historical point of reference, it takes in a succession of landscapes, springs, churches and waterways. This lets you choose between a focus on architectural and local history and a route through the surrounding area during your stay.
