Paludea can be explored through a range of travel interests: church art and architectural history, a place for social interaction, and a hiking route that connects several place names. Festivals also play a part: the Marcia del vin is part of Paludea’s festival programme; Tradjzjon cjastelane is associated with tastings. If you are looking for a hotel in Paludea, these highlights can help you match the place to the purpose of your trip.

Churches and sacred art

The Church of San Carlo in Paludea was built on the site of an earlier oratory, constructed after the mid-17th century. This date refers to the oratory; it does not also date the church. An oratory is a place of worship; here, it stood at the same location before the church. San Carlo also houses a statue of the Madonna carved by Valentino Panciera, known as Besarel. Two wooden altars from the Church of San Daniele in Colle Monaco are also now kept in San Carlo.

Another sacred work of art can be found at Casa Tositti, at Via Paludea 99. It is a stone high relief of the Madonna and Child, set into the base of an outdoor staircase. A high relief projects three-dimensionally from a surface; here, the image is also incorporated into a specific architectural feature. Comparing it with the statue of the Madonna in San Carlo reveals two different forms of sacred art: a carved statue and a stone relief.

Meeting places and trails

A different view of Paludea can be found at the “Ai Pioppi” recreation area: it is a place for meeting and social interaction. Unlike the church and Casa Tositti, it is defined by its community function. The Torrente Cosa runs alongside the hamlet of Paludea, adding a connection to the water to the description of the place.

A hiking itinerary connects Paludea, Praforte (nuovo), Forca and Sottoforca. Another route description concerns the area around Castelnovo del Friuli: there, riverside paths follow the Torrente Cosa, and one of them leads to the Sorgente del Tof. The distinction is useful for planning a trip: the itinerary links several places, while the riverside path has a specific spring as its destination.

Festival programme and tastings

The Marcia del vin is a non-competitive run and part of Paludea’s festival programme. The three routes are 7, 14 and 21 kilometres long; each successive route is seven kilometres longer than the previous one. Tradjzjon cjastelane includes tastings of traditional dishes and local wines. The Marcia focuses on running distances, while tastings take centre stage at Tradjzjon cjastelane. If the run is a deciding factor in your stay, check the dates of Paludea’s festival programme before making plans.
