Casale offers several clearly distinct points of interest for planning a stay: a panoramic circular road, named trails, ancient chestnut groves, an oratory and a dairy with direct sales. This makes it possible to explore the area through more than just a single attraction.

Landscape and Chestnut Groves

The 16 km panoramic circular road passes through Casale and the agricultural landscape of Bismantova. Casale is also one of the historic villages arranged in a ring around Pietra di Bismantova. This brings together two different scales: the road passes through the village, while the ring-shaped arrangement describes the position of several historic villages in relation to Pietra. Ancient chestnut groves are still visible along the road to Foresteria (Casale 2) and on the northern slopes of Monte Camorra. A large sweet chestnut grove used for harvesting the fruit is also located south of Casale, on Monte Camorra. These different locations make chestnuts tangible here both as a visible feature of the landscape and as an agricultural activity.

Trails with Different Destinations

The destinations are a useful point of comparison when planning routes. The Sentiero di Casale is listed between Località Casale and Piazzale Dante, with both places given as starting and ending points. The Via Crucis follows a different route: it runs from Casale di Bismantova to Orti dei Frati at the foot of Pietra di Bismantova. A municipal tourism notice dated June 10, 2021 describes this route. When planning a walk, base your choice on the stated starting and ending points: Piazzale Dante for the Sentiero, and Orti dei Frati at the foot of Pietra for the Via Crucis. Check current access information for the Via Crucis before visiting, as the municipal notice dates from June 2021.

Oratory and Architecture

The Oratorio dei Santi Angeli Custodi is also part of Casale’s cultural character: it is an interesting building on the circular route around Pietra di Bismantova. Its plain façade with a gable and its portal with an architrave offer specific details to look for when viewing the architecture. The gable forms the upper end of the façade, while the architrave forms the horizontal top of the portal. Along the circular route, the oratory thus complements the wider cultural landscape with a specific example of local architecture.

Local Produce

Casale’s local character also includes a dairy with direct sales of local products, including dairy products and other goods. This gives the agricultural surroundings a tangible everyday connection: alongside the groves and landscape, Casale’s regional produce also takes center stage.
