If you choose Morfasso as your destination and are looking for a hotel, you can plan your trip around its landscapes and cultural attractions: hiking and cycling, viewpoints, churches and memorial sites offer different reasons to visit. Each place has its own character and provides practical guidance for planning your trip.

Landscape Around Morfasso

Near Mignano, a dam holds back the Arda River. It lies on the border between Morfasso and Vernasca and has created a large artificial lake. The lake is clearly visible from the valley road between Lugagnano and Morfasso.

The Parco del Monte Moria covers more than 1,000 hectares in the municipalities of Morfasso and Lugagnano and protects the woodland on this Apennine slope. The park offers opportunities for hiking and cycling; trails start, among other places, in the centre of Lugagnano and in the hamlet of Rustigazzo. Admission is free, and the park is open 24 hours a day, every day. Check access conditions before your trip.

Monte Menegosa is a natural viewpoint overlooking the Alta Val d’Arda and neighbouring Val Nure. The Oratorio Santa Franca is another prominent destination: it stands at an altitude of 1,200 metres, about six kilometres from Morfasso.

Another route into the Alta Val d’Arda and Morfasso leads over Passo del Pellizzone from Val Ceno in the Province of Parma.

Hiking Trails and Activities

The Lama e Menegosa loop trail starts in Teruzzi. The village lies at an altitude of 1,038 metres and is the highest village in the Val d’Arda; you can park your car there. The Cammino di Santa Franca is a religious walking route from Morfasso to the sanctuary dedicated to the saint. The walk takes about two hours and is marked with white and yellow signs. Trail conditions and markings may change; check both before setting out.

The trails offer different points of reference for planning: the Cammino di Santa Franca has an estimated duration, while the Lama e Menegosa loop trail has a named starting point with parking in Teruzzi.

Horse riding, orienteering, mountain biking and climbing are also possible in Morfasso. If you plan to take part in any of these activities, check current providers and conditions, as they may change.

Culture and Memorial Sites

The Church of Santa Maria Assunta in Morfasso dates back to the 16th century; its façade is Baroque. The Stele ai partigiani Caduti al Passo dei Guselli commemorates 33 partisans who died in the fatal ambush on 4 December 1944.

Coming from Morfasso, the stele stands on Strada Provinciale 15 just before the village of Guselli. A historical information board stands beside it. It is the fourth stage of the “Sentieri della Libertà” and provides information about the resistance in the Val d’Arda and the events at Passo dei Guselli. Together, the stele and the board offer a specific insight into the history of the site and the region.
