Sala Bolognese: Culture and the Ciclovia del Reno
Accommodation in Sala Bolognese
For a trip to Sala Bolognese, you can choose from a strong cycling focus and several cultural and historical themes. The Ciclovia del Reno provides specific information about the connection and route, while churches, Palazzo Zambeccari and Museo Giocars offer different points of interest. When planning, pay particular attention to the different visiting conditions at each site.
Cycling along the Reno
The Ciclovia del Reno (ER19) currently connects eight municipalities, including Sala Bolognese: Castel Maggiore, Calderara di Reno, Sala Bolognese, Argelato, Castello d'Argile, Cento, Pieve di Cento and Galliera. The route is 42 km long and follows the Reno river embankment. It is completely flat and suitable for all types of training. As route connections can change, check the current route before setting off.
Romanesque Pieve and Museo Giocars
The Pieve di Santa Maria Annunziata e San Biagio dates back to 1096 and was built in the Lombard Romanesque style. Its features include a blind arcade dating from the 12th century. It is considered the only example of such an arcade in a Romanesque building in the Bologna area. The two dates refer to different things: 1096 to the Pieve, and the 12th century to the arcade.
The Museo Giocars displays 700 unique antique toys themed around movement. The collection includes antique toy cars, tricycles, dolls' prams and rocking horses, as well as levers, pedals and wheels. Its scope therefore goes beyond toy cars: the collection brings together various types of toys and elements related to movement.
Churches, palaces and events
The Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo is located in the hamlet of Bagno di Piano in Sala Bolognese and is a 16th-century church. Palazzo Zambeccari, also known as “Il Conte”, is a rectangular villa-palace with four corner towers. The corner towers date from the 16th century. Palazzo Zambeccari can only be viewed from the outside.
Villa Terracini can also only be viewed from the outside; it is open to the public during cultural events. This access depends on the programme of each event. If you are planning a visit, check the event dates.
The Fiera di Sala Bolognese dates back to 1988. Its traditional programme includes agricultural and historical reenactments, as well as theatrical events. This adds an event format to the architectural and collection-related attractions. If you are planning a visit, check the latest dates.
Paths and group visits at the Ecomuseo dell’Acqua
The Ecomuseo dell’Acqua paths are freely accessible on foot and by bicycle during the day, provided you follow the posted rules. Guided group visits are generally free and available by arrangement or during events. The paths and guided tours offer different ways to explore: for the paths, the time of day and posted rules apply; for a group tour, an advance arrangement or an event is required. If you are planning a tour, arrange the date in advance.
