When looking for a hotel in Castello D'argile, you can plan your trip around trails along the Reno, culture or an event. The town is closely connected to the Reno River and its embankments. Consider whether you would prefer to take a cycling and walking trail, explore churches and theatre, or plan your stay around a festival.

Trails along the Reno

A 4.5-kilometre combined cycling and walking trail opened on 22 February 2025. It connects Castello D'argile with Mascarino Venezzano and provides a safe route for pedestrians and cyclists. Its length and two endpoints make this a clearly defined option for planning your trip.

The Ciclovia del Reno is on a different scale: it extends for 42 kilometres along the Reno embankment and connects Castello D'argile with seven other municipalities – Castel Maggiore, Calderara di Reno, Sala Bolognese, Argelato, Cento, Pieve di Cento and Galliera. The route follows an elevated embankment and offers views of cultivated fields, floodplains, small villages and impressive country villas. It is completely flat and suitable for different fitness levels. Since much of the route is exposed to the sun, it is advisable to bring water. Comparing the lengths – 4.5 kilometres for the connecting trail and 42 kilometres for the Ciclovia – helps you gauge the scale of both routes when planning.

Getting there by Prontobus

Prontobus line 453 connects Castello D'argile with Bentivoglio and Pieve di Cento, as well as with S. Giorgio di Piano railway station. The service is timed to connect with some of the trains arriving there, not every train arrival. Before travelling, check the current timetable and connection for your specific train. This lets you take public transport into account when planning without assuming a fixed transfer time.

Art, architecture and theatre

The Chiesa di San Pietro di Argile contains fragments of a rare and valuable fresco attributed to Simone dei Crocifissi. The Chiesa di Santa Maria di Venezzano is considered one of the first examples of the use of reinforced concrete in art. This makes an architectural feature the main point of interest here, while the fresco attributed to Simone dei Crocifissi is the artistic highlight at San Pietro. The Oratorio di Sant’Anna is believed to have a stained-glass window made by Venetian glassmakers towards the end of the 19th century; this attribution is a hypothesis.

The Teatro comunale La Casa del Popolo di Castello D'argile can also be used as an exhibition venue and hosts theatre and music events on a permanent basis. If you would like to combine your stay with a performance or exhibition, check the dates for your travel period.

Festivals and local traditions

The Festa d’Erzen combines religious moments with three evenings of music, performances and socialising. The Erzen Beer Festival has been held for several years and returned in 2026 for the fourth consecutive year; check dates for future editions separately. For 2026, the Ritorno al Medioevo festival was noted for a medieval camp and exhibitions of weapons, armour and cannons. Programme details may vary in future editions.

The Maccheronata di Sant’Antonio is a traditional local event commemorating the former Pastificio Mascarino. For 2026, a food stand was listed as serving maccheroni with ragù, wine and water; the offerings may change in later editions. Check event dates and the programme for your chosen travel year if a festival is the reason for your hotel trip.
