Discover Lacco Ameno
Accommodation in Lacco Ameno
If you are looking for a hotel in Lacco Ameno, the town’s attractions may shape your choice of destination: archaeological collections, church art, scenery, thermal experiences and recurring events each offer a different focus. The museums tell the story of Ischia; Monte Vico, Il Fungo and the thermal park add opportunities to enjoy nature and relaxation. Consider which of these aspects you would like to prioritise during your stay.
Archaeological collections and Villa Arbusto
Villa Arbusto – Museo archeologico di Pithecusae houses archaeological finds from Ischia dating from the Neolithic to the Classical period. A multimedia room at the villa shows a video about Ischia’s Greek history and the development of the first settlement at Pithecusa. The garden is also part of the visitor experience: it is open to visitors, as are the museum rooms. Its botanical collection includes Mediterranean strawberry trees, laurels, olive and fig trees, carob and pomegranate trees, oleanders, cypresses and a few stone pines.
The Museo Angelo Rizzoli offers a different perspective on the island’s history. Its collection includes more than five hundred photographs documenting Angelo Rizzoli’s initiatives on Ischia. Those interested in archaeology will also find a link between excavation site, age and display at the Museo Pithecusae: artefacts from the San Montano necropolis date from the 8th to the 7th century BC and are displayed in rooms 2 and 3.
Notable objects include the Cratere del Naufragio. It comes from the San Montano necropolis, was made towards the end of the 8th century BC and is one of the oldest examples of figural vase painting in Italy. The Coppa di Nestore is kept at the Museo Pithecusae in Villa Arbusto. Another archaeological find is a scarab bearing the cartouche of Pharaoh Bocchoris, whose reign is dated to 718–712 BC; it was found in tomb 325.
Santa Restituta and church art
The excavations and the Santa Restituta Museum are located in the underground rooms of the Basilica of Santa Restituta. They bear witness to life and culture on Ischia from the Greek period through to the first Christians. This site therefore complements the collections at Villa Arbusto with a historic setting of its own. The Chiesa dell’Assunta offers a different focus: it has a single-nave layout, and its ceiling fresco depicts the Assumption of Mary, surrounded by angels.
The Feast of Santa Restituta takes place from 16 to 18 May. The celebrations include a sacred reenactment of the martyrdom and arrival of Santa Restituta, a procession at sea and fireworks. If you would like to plan your trip around this occasion, check the dates and current programme in advance.
Monte Vico, Il Fungo and the thermal park
Monte Vico is the ancient acropolis of Pithekoussai. From the Monte Vico viewpoint, you can look towards Procida and the Phlegraean coast; the Monte Vico trail winds through Mediterranean maquis and offers panoramic views. This lets you appreciate two different aspects of Monte Vico: the site’s ancient significance and the views from today’s lookout.
A distinctive coastal landmark is Il Fungo, a green tuff rock shaped like a mushroom by the wind and waves. The rock fell into the sea from Monte Epomeo in prehistoric times. Those interested in landscapes shaped by natural forces will find a different perspective here from the maquis trail or the Monte Vico viewpoint.
Parco Termale Negombo is located in the Bay of San Montano. Negombo’s wellness centre combines thermal springs with the sea and surrounding garden, as well as massages and treatments. Lacco Ameno therefore brings together different interests: archaeological and artistic heritage, scenic experiences and thermal wellness.
Events and getting around
Ischia Safari is an annual Italian cuisine festival in Lacco Ameno. The Ipomea botanical exhibition takes place annually at the end of May. Both events may be of interest when planning your trip; check the latest dates before arranging your travel around them. The Feast of Santa Restituta, held from 16 to 18 May, offers a more specific timeframe, but it is still worth checking the programme for that year.
The EAV timetable, valid from 6 July 2026, shows route 171 running between Lacco Ameno, Ischia, Casamicciola, Forio and Sant’Angelo. Check current service before travelling.
