When looking for a hotel in Satriano, it is worth deciding first what brings you on your trip. Cultural history, traces of the disused railway and the landscape along the Ancinale offer different points of interest. Timing also matters: walks along the river are described for spring, while religious events take place during Holy Week or on September 26 and 27.

Buildings and Local History

The Torre Ancinale, also known as the Torre Ravaschiera, was built in the 16th century as a lookout and first line of defense. Its original purpose is therefore clearly defined: it served for observation and initial defense. The Chiesa Matrice of Satriano is distinguished by a Greek-style pediment. Another historical topic connects Fontana Gatti with the hamlet of Monaci: the fountain was built after a watercourse there had been channelled. In Pandini, an old path connected Satriano with the river below. Together, these places illustrate different aspects of local history—defense, sacred architecture, water engineering and a connection between the settlement and the river.

Traces of the Disused Railway

The former Soverato (FCL)–Chiaravalle Centrale railway line, which had a stop at Satriano-Davoli, has been out of service since 1969. Its former route can be traced as an unpaved path with tunnels and bridges. A viaduct over the Fosso Turriti lies on the disused line between Laganosa and the former Satriano-Davoli station. Structures from this railway line were also visible during a walk. Together, the former connection, the stop and the structures form a distinct historical point of interest. If you plan to walk the former route, please check the current path conditions and access in advance.

Hiking and Nature Along the Ancinale

In spring, the Fiumara Ancinale can be explored on hikes and walks from the Marina di Satriano toward Serra San Bruno. A significant population of royal fern Osmunda regalis is found along the river route from the Marina di Satriano to Serra San Bruno. For plant enthusiasts, this makes the river route a point of interest as well as a particular fern species. Another walking route led from the Torre Ravaschiera along the Ancinale to Satriano’s historic center. This two-hour walk followed quiet side roads and an unpaved path. The Chapel of Santa Tecla was also one of the sights on the walk. The two routes offer different highlights: the spring walk from the Marina toward Serra San Bruno, and the walk from the Torre Ravaschiera to the historic center.

Religious Traditions and When to Visit

A Cumprunta takes place in Satriano during Holy Week and is a religious tradition. Ceremonial events in honor of San Cosma e Damiano are held on September 26 and 27. These dates offer two different points of reference: A Cumprunta follows the timing of Holy Week, while the events for San Cosma e Damiano take place on fixed dates in September. If you are planning to travel specifically for one of these occasions, check the local annual program in advance.
