Churches, townscape and landscape offer different points of interest for exploring Decollatura. Churches and sacred art take centre stage in Cerrisi and Casenove; Adami combines the birthplace of poet Michele Pane with a historic street layout. Fontana du Cavune is a feature of traditional water infrastructure, while Santa Maria offers walks, paths and ancient trees. You can choose your destination based on the interest that most shapes your trip.

Churches and Art

The Chiesa di Cerrisi was built in 1751 by local residents. Its nave is decorated with three 18th-century paintings. The paintings depict scenes from the Passion of Christ and are by artists Zimatore and Grillo. Cerrisi thus brings together a building with a specific date and sacred paintings from the same century.

The Chiesa di Casenove was built between 1740 and 1750 at the expense of local residents. The main entrance has a round-arched tuff portal, above which is a polychrome window. Three oil paintings adorn the ceiling of the central nave: the Crucifixion, the Pietà and Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. A comparison with Cerrisi reveals different approaches to church art: in Cerrisi, the Passion themes and the artists who painted the nave are highlighted, while in Casenove, the portal’s design and the position of the ceiling paintings are also noteworthy.

Adami: Birthplace and Townscape

Casa di Michele Pane is the birthplace of poet Michele Pane. It is located in Adami’s historic centre, about 3 km from the centre of Decollatura, along the old paths of the settlement on the slopes of Mount Reventino. This approximate distance indicates Adami’s location relative to the centre of Decollatura. At the same time, Adami retains much of its 18th-century urban layout. Narrow lanes, stone arches and adjoining houses are part of this townscape. The historic centre thus brings together the memory of a poet and a clearly recognisable architectural feature.

Fontana du Cavune

Fontana du Cavune, also called “A fhuntana du' Cavune,” is an ancient spring in a hamlet of Decollatura. Two water channels are built into a masonry arch covered with tiles; basins for watering animals and washing clothes are located on either side. The basins point to the spring’s former practical use in daily life. You can reach Fontana from the provincial road or via Via Don Luigi Costanzo.

Santa Maria: Paths and Trees

The path near Santa Maria is suitable for walks and nature excursions. The oaks near Santa Maria can be reached via the local road leading to the village. In Santa Maria, the age of a box tree is also estimated at 900 years. These are two distinct references to trees: the oaks are mentioned in connection with how to reach them, while the box tree is notable for its estimated age.
