Champoluc combines winter sports with nature and traditional crafts. When planning your trip, it is worth looking at the different activities and their specific details: the ski resort and its ski connection, access to Crest, and a hike to Lago Blu that starts in Saint Jacques. The Pian Villy forest is also part of the local landscape.

Nature around Champoluc

The Pian Villy forest is near the built-up area of Champoluc. This makes the woodland an aspect of nature in its own right, alongside the town. At Lago Blu, intensely turquoise water defines the lake, with the Monte Rosa massif visible in the background. The two places offer different impressions: Pian Villy is notable for its proximity to the built-up area, while at Lago Blu the color of the water and the mountain scenery come together.

If you include Lago Blu in your plans, note the starting point of the hike described here: it begins in Saint Jacques at an elevation of 1,689 meters. Its connection to Champoluc is therefore different from the route to Crest, which can be reached directly from Champoluc.

Skiing and winter options

The Champoluc ski area includes runs of varying difficulty, from options for beginners to runs for experienced skiers. In addition, a ski connection runs from Champoluc and Frachey to Gressoney-La-Trinité and Alagna in Valsesia. The facilities in the ski area and the connection to the two destinations mentioned can therefore be considered different aspects of skiing.

From Champoluc, cable cars provide access to higher-altitude areas, where off-piste ski routes and ski excursions begin. These are different options from the runs of varying difficulty. If you include such outings in your plans, check the current operating status of the relevant cable car in advance.

Routes to Crest and Lago Blu

Crest can be reached from Champoluc by gondola or on foot in 45 minutes via hiking trail no. 13. This gives you two access options; the walking route is specified by both its estimated time and trail number. If you plan to take the gondola as part of your outing, check its current operating status before you set off.

The hike to Lago Blu has different details: it starts in Saint Jacques at an elevation of 1,689 meters, gains 550 meters in elevation and takes just under two hours. In winter, snowshoes are required for the route. The starting point, elevation gain and duration help you consider this as a hike in its own right, rather than confuse it with the route from Champoluc to Crest.

Sabots and the history of Crest

The history of sabots, traditional wooden shoes, is one of the local cultural themes. Historically, families in the Crest area made them, especially in winter. This is a craft tradition with historical roots and offers a distinct insight into local heritage.

Villy Bike Park

Villy Bike Park has a pump track with dirt mounds, banked turns and ramps of varying difficulty. It is intended for young people up to the age of 15. If you are considering the park when choosing activities, both the age limit and the specific features of the course are important.
