Lenti brings together a range of attractions: thermal baths with a variety of pools, St. Michael’s Parish Church, traces of Lenti Castle and a forest railway that runs seasonally. Whether, when planning your trip, you are more interested in water attractions, religious art, history or a train ride, each of these areas has its own distinct appeal.

Lenti Thermal Baths: Pools and Water Attractions

Lenti Thermal Baths comprises five outdoor pools, three indoor pools, a partially covered hydromassage pool and an eight-hectare green area. The largest pool covers 1,340 m². Its features include a white-water channel, neck massage, massage benches and a 74-metre Anaconda slide. The baths therefore offer a range of pool types as well as different water attractions.

These figures give a concrete sense of the size of the largest pool and the complex. It is also worth noting the differences between the facilities: outdoor and indoor pools, hydromassage, a slide and a white-water channel all describe distinct parts of the offering. The spacious green area complements the pools as a separate space. The thermal baths are therefore an obvious choice if water attractions are to be a key part of your stay in Lenti.

Church and Castle Remains

Another point of interest is St. Michael’s Parish Church in Lenti. It was completed in 1698 and dedicated to Saint Michael. Frescoes by István Dorffmeister Jr. adorn the chancel and the first section of the three-bay nave. The completion date and dedication place the church in its historical context, while the frescoes add a specific artistic element in two precisely identified parts of the church.

Traces of Lenti Castle have also been preserved: the former moat and a bastion can still be identified. Medieval remains are located in the cellar of a barn built in the 18th century using parts of the castle. The visible castle features and the remains in the barn cellar thus form distinct parts of the site. This does not imply that visitors can access these areas; if you would like to plan a visit specifically to see them, check access arrangements in advance.

Forest Railway and Exhibitions at the Station

The 33-kilometre forest railway route runs between Lenti and Kistolmács, with passenger trains operating along it. Scheduled trains run from the end of April to the end of September. This seasonal period may be important when planning your trip: check the current timetable before travelling to make sure your plans align with the operating schedule.

Lenti Forest Railway Station is also connected with railway-related themes. A project description published in 2019 lists the exhibition “Forest and tree, Zala forest, treasure of Göcsej” in its exhibition rooms, covering forestry, sawmills and railway history. It also mentions a railway history exhibition in the waiting room, featuring a model of the forest railway and an interactive map. If these exhibitions are important to your stay, check visitor access arrangements in advance.

The local attractions can be grouped by interest: the thermal baths focus on pools and water attractions, the church and castle remains offer art and history, and the forest railway provides a seasonal travel option. When choosing accommodation, you can start by considering which of these interests you want to shape your stay in Lenti.
