When planning a trip, Viszák is best explored through its culture, local history and Tündérkert. The local scene ranges from theater, concerts and cultural programs to a garden with old fruit trees, as well as several buildings and memorial sites. The local distilling tradition of Viszák pálinka is another feature. When planning your stay, you can focus on different aspects, including cultural events, garden design and local history.

Tündérkert: Garden and structures

Tündérkert in Viszák is a garden with trees, landscaped green spaces and open meadows. Some of its apple, walnut and pear trees are about 100 years old. The garden thus brings together different kinds of trees and open green spaces, with the approximate age highlighting certain trees in particular.

The Kemencekápolna is part of Tündérkert and was completed in 2015 with the support of university students. Images by a local photography artist can be seen on the side walls between its wooden pillars. In 2012, architecture students from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics built the Tündérkert Star around an old pear tree; the structure offers visitors shelter.

A wooden pedestrian bridge made of acacia wood was built next to Tündérkert in 2013 and called a “börü.” The construction dates place the three structures in chronological order: the 2012 Star was followed by the 2013 bridge and the 2015 Kemencekápolna.

Memorial sites and local history

On October 23, 2007, residents of Viszák unveiled a memorial tree for the victims of the deportations of the 1950s during the “Élő Emlékezet Ünnepe” celebration. The names of the three deported families, Böhm, Dávid and Török, are engraved on the tree. The date, occasion and engraved names give this memorial site a specific historical connection.

Viszák’s shared Evangelical-Reformed church also has a documented bell history. After the Second World War, the bell in the old bell tower could not be rung. This historical note adds a detail about the church and its bell tower to the local history.

The distilling tradition

The distillery in Viszák was founded before the Second World War by the wealthier farmers of the village. For generations, many people have had their spirits distilled there; Viszák pálinka became known far beyond the area. The story of its founding is thus connected to a production tradition maintained over generations.
