Discover Ófehértó
Accommodation in Ófehértó
Ófehértó can be explored through three themes: the architectural and artistic history of the Roman Catholic church, the chronologically arranged monument group in the memorial park, and a hike starting in the town. For planning your trip, it is helpful to distinguish between them: the church combines Gothic architecture with a fresco that was later painted over; the park focuses on a monument group, while the route from Ófehértó passes through a forest reserve to Baktalórántháza.
Ófehértó Church: construction date and details
The Roman Catholic church in Ófehértó is a single-nave Gothic church dating from the second quarter of the 14th century. A fresco depicting Saint George is located on the north side of the nave. In the 17th century, it was painted over with a layer of floral motifs. The term single-nave describes the layout of the church interior, while Gothic identifies its architectural style.
An inscription is located on the south façade, in a niche above a walled-up portal. Visits to the church are by prior arrangement.
Memorial park: monuments arranged chronologically
The memorial park in Ófehértó contains a chronologically arranged monument group, expanded with a 1956 Büszkeségpont; thus, alongside the church’s architectural and artistic history, there is an ensemble of monuments arranged by period.
