Csobánka: Streams, Church and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Csobánka
Csobánka brings together streams, a Serbian Orthodox Baroque church, and five trails with specific route details. When choosing a hotel, you can first consider what you would like to focus on during your stay: nature along the waterways, a listed church building, or hiking trails with known distances and elevation figures. The routes differ in length, course, number of signs, and elevation figures.
Streams and Wildlife
The Dera-patak and its tributary, the Kovácsi-patak, wind for more than 2.5 km through Csobánka, creating a variety of habitats. Protected fish species, noble crayfish, dragonflies, and numerous bird species live along the two streams. This wildlife is also found within the built-up area of the village. If you are interested in Csobánka’s natural surroundings, these two named waterways offer a specific point of reference, with habitats that are not limited to areas outside the village.
Serbian Orthodox Church
Csobánka’s Serbian Orthodox church stands at Hősök tere 4. It is a Baroque church dating from 1746 and is protected as a national historic monument. Its denomination, architectural style, and year of construction give the building a clear historical and cultural context. If you would like to take the village’s built heritage into account alongside its streams, the church is a distinct point of interest for this part of your trip planning.
Comparing the Hiking Trails
The five trails can be distinguished by their starting and ending points, distances, and elevation figures. For some circular routes, the number of signs along the trail is also given; for two trails starting in Margitliget, ascent and descent are listed separately.
- The Szent-kúti ösvény is a 6 km circular trail. It starts and ends at the “Csobánkai templomok” sign in front of the Serbian church, passes six signs, and has an elevation difference of 220 m.
- The Oszoly ösvény is a 2.25 km circular trail that starts and ends at Oszoly-pihenő. There are nine signs along the trail, and the elevation difference is 60 m.
- The Mackó-barlang ösvény is also a circular trail starting and ending at Oszoly-pihenő. It is 3.9 km long, passes ten signs, and has an elevation difference of 210 m.
- The 7 km Fehér sziklák ösvény starts in Margitliget and ends at the “Csobánka templomai” sign. The route passes 21 signs and includes 300 m of ascent and 210 m of descent; there are also four viewpoints along the route.
- The Erdőszéli ösvény runs for 5.5 km from Margitliget to the “Csobánkai templomok” sign. There are 17 signs along the route; the stated figures are 140 m of ascent and 53 m of descent.
For a direct comparison of the circular trails from Oszoly-pihenő, the differences in distance and elevation are useful: at 2.25 km, the Oszoly ösvény is shorter than the 3.9 km Mackó-barlang ösvény; their stated elevation differences are 60 m and 210 m, respectively. For the two trails starting in Margitliget, you can consider ascent and descent separately. Four viewpoints are also noted for the Fehér sziklák ösvény.
Getting Your Bearings at Oszoly-pihenő
Oszoly-pihenő is the starting point for the shorter circular trails and can be reached by car from Csobánka’s Fő tér. This information may be useful when planning to take the Oszoly ösvény or the Mackó-barlang ösvény. The Szent-kúti ösvény, by contrast, starts and ends at the sign in front of the Serbian church; the other two trails described begin in Margitliget.
