Mogyoród: Water Park, Viticulture and Culture
Accommodation in Mogyoród
Mogyoród’s features range from Aquaréna, a water park, and a locally protected section of the Mogyoródi Stream to architectural and historical sites on two hills. They also include viticulture and objects brought together in the Faluház. These topics differ considerably: one concerns a leisure facility, another the landscape, architecture, agricultural conditions or collected materials. If you are planning a stay, you can use these themes to set your priorities and decide how much weight to give each aspect of the town.
Aquaréna and its facilities
Aquaréna is a water park in Mogyoród, covering 11.5 hectares beside the Hungaroring. Its facilities include 1.5 kilometres of slides, pools and a whirlpool. The location, park area and facilities answer different questions: its location beside the Hungaroring tells you where the park is, the area in hectares describes its size, and the listed facilities convey its character. Before visiting, check current opening information if Aquaréna is a key part of your plans.
The protected section of the Mogyoródi Stream
The section of the Mogyoródi Stream between the main square and the M3 motorway is designated a locally significant protected natural area. The main square and the M3 motorway mark its endpoints. This boundary helps put Mogyoród’s natural features into geographical context: the protected status applies to a specific stretch of the stream and adds a landscape perspective to the leisure and architectural themes.
Architecture and history on two hills
The lookout tower and the Chapel of Saint Ladislaus stand on Somlyó Hill; both were designed by Imre Makovecz. The attribution to the same designer links two different types of building. Today, a park and a monument stand on Klastrom Hill, on the site of the former abbey. The two hills can be distinguished by their historical associations: on Somlyó, the focus is on the design of the named buildings, while on Klastrom it is the former abbey site and today’s park and monument landscape. This brings out architecture and the historical location as distinct aspects of the town’s history.
Viticulture and old cellars
Mogyoród’s gently sloping, south-facing hillsides and soil conditions offer favourable conditions for viticulture. The slope describes the shape of the hillsides, their southern aspect their orientation; the soil is another factor. Mogyoród also has wine cellars that are several hundred years old. Viticulture here involves both local growing conditions and a historical connection through the age of the cellars.
Collected materials at the Faluház
Objects brought together at the Faluház, along with old furniture, clothing and photographs, were reorganised and catalogued in 2015. This collection differs from the buildings on Somlyó and the former abbey site on Klastrom: here, collected objects and images take centre stage, while those places are about architecture or a historical site. The year 2015 refers to the reorganisation and cataloguing, not to when the materials originated.
