For a stay in Sóskút, you can combine two specific interests: the landscape and archaeological traces at Kálvária Hill, and Nyakas Kör with its two stated route lengths. The hill lies on the northern edge of the village; the longer version of the loop also passes over Sóskúti Kálvária Hill. If you plan your trip around specific places and route options, the location of the rock features, the differences in trail conditions, and the comparison of route lengths can help you find your way.

Kálvária Hill: Rock Landscape and Earthwork

Kálvária Hill, which is 173 metres high, lies on the northern edge of Sóskút. Its slopes vary: they are steep and rocky to the east and north, and gentler to the south and west. On the northeastern to eastern side of the hill, a limestone ridge about 400 metres long runs from northeast to southwest. It contains two hewn niches. The rock with the niches is designated as a protected natural area and natural monument of national significance.

Remains of a Bronze Age earthwork have been excavated on the rock ridge. The fortified area occupies the summit and measures no more than 97 metres long and 44 metres wide. These dimensions describe the summit area, not the roughly 400-metre-long rock ridge: they are two different measurements for the same hill. The northwestern part of the ridge also contains old quarrying traces and Babólyuk Cave.

Trail Conditions on the Hill

A well-walkable dirt road leads up Kálvária Hill. By contrast, a difficult path runs along the foot of the rock face in places; the rock with the niches is considered difficult to access. This distinction is relevant to your planning: the dirt road’s good walkability does not automatically apply to the path by the rock. If you are particularly interested in the rock face, take its stated accessibility into account separately. Check trail conditions before your visit, as they can change.

Nyakas Kör: Two Route Lengths

Nyakas Kör is a loop between Biatorbágy and Sóskút, with 13-kilometre and 25-kilometre options. The route starts and ends in the shadow of the viaduct. The longer option passes over Sóskúti Kálvária Hill and by the local beehive rocks, Nyakas-kő, and Berta Stream. If you are considering the route because of the hill, note this distinction: the section over Kálvária Hill is part of the longer option. When choosing between the two options, the kilometre figures provide a direct comparison; the longer one is also specified as passing over the hill and by the named landscape features. Check current route conditions before setting out.
