In Hajdúszoboszló, local attractions range from bathing facilities and city history to outdoor leisure. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first consider which of these interests you want to shape your stay. Aqua-Palace, historic sites and Szabadidő Park offer different perspectives on the city. Water attractions, architectural and commemorative heritage, and outdoor activities can each be considered as distinct focal points.

Water attractions and event space

Aqua-Palace offers water-jet massages and massage jets, as well as spring pools, a current channel and a bubble bed. The slides differ in shape and design: the tropical pool has a red family slide, as well as a large green spiral slide. Aqua-Palace is directly connected to the city’s spa and beach bath. You can take this connection into account when navigating between the water attractions.

The Aqua-Palace surf building also has a conference room for 180 people, which serves as an event venue. The facilities therefore include a space for events in addition to the water attractions.

City history and architectural heritage

The exhibition “The Heritage of Hajdúszoboszló” covers the city’s medieval roots, the heritage of the Hajdús and its more recent history. It brings together a range of historical subjects. The Roman Catholic Church of St. Ladislaus has a specific construction date: it was built in the Baroque style in 1776. Its interior frescoes were created by church painter István Takács in the 1930s.

The Trianon Memorial commemorates a different historical subject: it was unveiled on June 4, 2020, and symbolizes the indivisibility of the Hungarian nation. Harangház houses and displays the bell heritage donated to the city by Oborzil. It stands in the park between the spa and the city’s main street. The church, memorial and Harangház thus differ both in their historical significance and in what visitors can see there.

Activities at Szabadidő Park

Szabadidő Park offers several activities, which can be distinguished by type and length. The cycling track is more than 160 metres long, while the roller-skating track is just under 400 metres long. There is also an 800-metre synthetic running track. These measurements refer to different tracks and activities; they can help you compare the options according to your interests.

For children, the park has a modern playground with a climbing castle and climbing wall. Visitors can also take a walk and picnic in the park-like, tree-planted grounds. The tracks are complemented by opportunities to spend time outdoors, so the park is not defined by just one activity.

Hajdúszoboszló within the wider destination of Hajdú-Bihar

Within the wider destination of Hajdú-Bihar, the Hortobágyi Nemzeti Park – the Puszta World Heritage Site area offers a different focus from the urban attractions of Hajdúszoboszló. It covers nearly 75,000 hectares in the Great Hungarian Plain in eastern Hungary. As a cultural landscape, it preserves visible evidence of more than 2,000 years of traditional pastoralism.

The route lengths at Hortobágyi-halastó also offer a concrete point of comparison: the nature trail allows walks of 3.6, 5.4 or 10 kilometres, with no difficult sections. The pond system is a Ramsar site, an Important Bird Area, part of the World Heritage Site and a Natura 2000 site. The city history and leisure attractions of Hajdúszoboszló thus contrast with a distinct landscape and nature offering within the wider destination.
