A stay in Enying can focus on a variety of themes: churches and architectural history, places of remembrance, traditional pottery and summer outdoor events. These interests can be considered separately when planning your trip. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first decide whether historic architecture, a glimpse of traditional crafts or a seasonal event should shape your stay.

Churches and Architectural History

The Nepomuki Szent JĂĄnos Church is a nationally protected Neoclassical monument dating from 1841. A different period is represented by the Baroque ensemble of the Reformed Church and parsonage, built between 1789 and 1792. The Reformed Church and parsonage also contain a pulpit and pews dating from the late 18th century. Together, these buildings represent different periods and styles.

A more recent architectural landmark is Enying’s freestanding Lutheran church. Built in 1938 to designs by BĂĄlint Szeghalmy, it is in the Neo-Romanesque style. The inscription “ErƑs vĂĄr a mi IstenĂŒnk” (“A mighty fortress is our God”) appears above its entrance. The Turul statue stands beside the Reformed Church. The architectural forms, dates and inscription give these churches and their surroundings distinctive features.

BatthyĂĄny Castle stands in the center of Enying. The Czifrakert park surrounding the castle is one of the venues for summer outdoor events in Enying. As specific dates vary, check the event schedule before your trip. The architectural history also includes the expansion of an earlier manor house: Duke BatthyĂĄny FĂŒlöp had it enlarged in the Neoclassical style between 1809 and 1811, to designs by Georg Möser.

Monuments and Places of Remembrance

In the park at SzabadsĂĄg tĂ©r, opposite Enying Castle, stands the monument to those who fell in the First World War, also known as the ÁrpĂĄd Statue. The names of the dead are inscribed on the black marble plaques on its octagonal base. The location, base and plaques define the monument’s appearance.

The TinĂłdi Lantos SebestyĂ©n memorial stone is in the schoolyard of Enying’s Reformed school. Unveiled in 2006, it bears a relief portrait of TinĂłdi. In Enying’s Roman Catholic cemetery, Rebeka’s grave is marked by a coffin-shaped stone tomb monument. It was restored in 2010, and an information board was placed beside it.
