Llanwrtyd Wells: River Trails, Culture and Special Events
Accommodation in Llanwrtyd Wells
Llanwrtyd Wells brings together nature and culture with several special event dates. When looking for a hotel in Llanwrtyd Wells, it may help to first narrow down the purpose of your stay: would you like to focus on short riverside walks, a longer mountain pass route, local history and art, or a particular event? The following features of the area offer different points of reference.
Walking Trails and Mountain Pass Scenery
Near Llanwrtyd Wells, Irfon Forest offers two short walking trails along the River Irfon and a riverside picnic area beside the car park.
The Abergwesyn Pass runs from Llanwrtyd Wells to Tregaron and is about 20 miles long. This single-track route crosses the moors of Abergwesyn Common, passing steep slopes, pine forest and streams. The options therefore differ mainly in route type and landscape: short riverside trails through the forest versus a longer route across moorland, past steep slopes, through pine forest and alongside streams.
Culture and History
The Llanwrtyd Heritage & Arts Centre uses interactive exhibitions in a converted chapel to showcase the history of this part of Wales and of Llanwrtyd Wells as a major tourist destination during its time as a spa town. The centre also includes an art gallery featuring art and crafts by people living in Wales.
St. David’s Old Parish Church, also known as the Church of St. David near the Ford – Llanddewi-wrth-y-rhyd, is about a mile from Llanwrtyd Wells. It is a Norman church with earlier origins. While the Heritage & Arts Centre brings together town history and art, the church is notable for its Norman character and earlier origins.
Events and When to Travel
