Folly Farm and the village’s history

Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo is located in Begelly, Kilgetty, Pembrokeshire. The zoo is home to almost 100 different animal species. At bookable animal experiences, visitors can meet and feed animals behind the scenes. This makes the attraction a combination of wildlife viewing and special encounters that can be booked in advance.

Begelly’s mining past is also part of its history. In 1581, there were so many coal pits near the road between Tenby and Haverfordwest, by Begelly, that it was considered unsafe for carriages or wagons to pass because of the risk of ground subsidence. The old Dramway between Thomas Chapel and Begelly was a former railway line that carried coal from the mines near Broom and Thomas Chapel to Saundersfoot.

The Miners Walk passes through Begelly and Kilgetty and follows the route of the former Saundersfoot Railway. This brings a present-day walking path together with the history of a former railway line. The Dramway, in turn, recalls the transport of coal between the places mentioned and Saundersfoot.
