Art, gardens, historic buildings, walking trails and cultural events are at the heart of a stay in Corsham. You can focus on the art collection and the town’s history, make time for the outdoors, or plan your stay around a performance, festival or monthly market. Bus connections to Bath and Chippenham are also a practical part of planning your trip.

Art, Gardens and History

Corsham Court has an internationally renowned art collection of more than 160 paintings on public display. Corsham Gardens include ten acres of gardens, an arboretum and the North Walk. An arboretum is a collection of trees planted and maintained for study or display. Corsham Lake was created by Humphry Repton and adds to the historic landscape features.

The history of St Bartholomew’s Church spans two periods: its origins date back to Saxon times, while the present building dates from the mid-12th century. Corsham Almshouses offer a different perspective on the past: they are considered an outstanding example of 17th-century social care and retain richly decorated carvings and built-in furniture. Local cultural themes therefore include early architectural history, social care and preserved furnishings.

Walking Trails and Countryside

The Heritage Trails Project offers eight waymarked, informative walking trails focused on Corsham. The signs and information provide two kinds of guidance: the route is marked, and the walk is put into context. The trails also draw attention to the quarrying industry. This subject extends beyond Corsham to include the area around Biddestone, Box and Colerne.

The focus at The Batters, by contrast, is a specific woodland area. It lies between Pound Pill and Prospect, a short walk from Corsham, and covers 1.5 hectares of woodland with footpaths. The area is suitable for dog walking. The eight informative walking trails and The Batters thus offer different ways to explore: several routes connected with Corsham in one case, and a clearly defined woodland area in the other. Trail conditions can change; check them before setting out.

Cultural Programme and Event Dates

Pound Arts Centre offers performances, workshops, youth theatre and exhibitions throughout the year. Its fully equipped auditorium has 100 seats. If you would like to plan your stay around a performance, check the current programme, as individual dates may change.

Festivals and markets also take place at different times. Magic and Mayhem is a festival in Corsham organised by Pound Arts and held in November. Taste of Corsham is a food festival held in May. The Corsham Creative Market takes place monthly from February to December. While the two festivals are tied to specific months, the market offers a regular monthly date over a longer period. Check the exact dates before planning your trip around them.

Bus Connections for Trip Planning

The X31 bus runs from Corsham to Bath and Chippenham every half hour. There is also a direct bus connecting Corsham with Chippenham railway station. This provides connections to both of the named towns, as well as a direct bus to the station. Check the current timetable before departure, as frequencies and services may change.
