Tintinhull combines gardens, historic buildings and leisure activities such as tennis and swimming. If you are planning a stay, you can distinguish between these highlights according to what interests you most: gardens, the area's architectural history or an activity with specific conditions of use. The historical details range from the medieval origins of part of a building to additions to a church tower in the early 16th century. For leisure activities, on the other hand, it is worth checking the conditions for each one, especially the swimming times shown in the calendar.

Gardens and Historic Buildings in Tintinhull

Tintinhull Garden includes a working kitchen garden and an orchard. The two areas give the garden theme a clear structure: the kitchen garden represents cultivation, while the orchard is a distinct focus in its own right. You can therefore think of Tintinhull Garden as a travel interest that is distinct from the area's historic buildings. If you want to plan your stay primarily around your interest in gardens, the garden is a specific point of interest; for architecture enthusiasts, the buildings offer a different perspective on the past.

A large part of the built-up core of the Tintinhull Conservation Area consists of historic buildings from the 16th and 17th centuries. One example that can be dated precisely is the eastern part of Tintinhull House: this original farmhouse dates from 1630. The Dower House on Farm Street was built in 1685 for Honour Napper. These dates make it possible to compare their ages without treating the two houses as a single building complex: the original farmhouse is older, while the Dower House was built later and is associated with a named person.

Tintinhull Court also has its own architectural history. Part of the building originated as a medieval rectory; the building is also Grade I listed and privately owned. Its origins, listing and ownership are separate aspects: the listing refers to its heritage status, while the medieval origins describe the history of one part of the building. Together with the houses from the 16th and 17th centuries, Tintinhull thus reflects several historical layers rather than focusing on just one period of construction.

Church and Architectural History

The tower of the Church of St Margaret dates from the 13th century. Its uppermost stage and the stair turret were added in 1516–1517. This sequence distinguishes the older tower from the later additions, so not all the parts mentioned belong to the same phase of construction. The church also has an octagonal 15th-century font. “Octagonal” describes a shape with eight sides. The tower, later additions and font offer different points of interest if you are interested in historic architecture: the construction history of a tower on the one hand, and a separately dated furnishing on the other.

Tennis and Swimming

At the Village Recreation Ground, Tintinhull Tennis Club has two all-weather courts that can be used year-round in daylight. Non-members can also use the courts for a fee. This makes tennis a specific activity you can include in your plans without having to join the club. As access arrangements may change, check the club's current information in advance.

Tintinhull Swimming Pool is generally open to everyone. However, individual swimming times depend on the availability of volunteer helpers and are shown in the calendar. So check the calendar before you travel if you want to make swimming a firm part of your plans. Unlike the tennis courts, which can be used year-round, swimming plans here depend on the times shown. You can therefore consider both leisure activities when choosing your stay without confusing their different conditions.
