Yatton offers several specific themes to explore during a stay: the Strawberry Line between Yatton and Cheddar, the Rhynes at the Yatton end of the route, and its architectural and local history. There is also a Village Market, usually held monthly. If you are looking for a hotel in Yatton, an interest in nature, historical details and planning a market visit may each be a different reason for choosing the area.

The Strawberry Line and nature

The Strawberry Line is a 10-mile route between Yatton and Cheddar, with Yatton at one of its endpoints. The Rhynes at the Yatton end of the Strawberry Line are designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) because of their nationally important aquatic plant communities. This places the connection between Yatton and Cheddar alongside the protected natural value at the Yatton end as two distinct aspects.

The car park at Yatton station is one of the main car parks for the Strawberry Line and is the access point in Yatton. As parking arrangements may change, check the latest information before your visit.

Architectural history and monuments

The Church of St Mary has a late-13th-century core and was altered in the 15th century. The Old Rectory and Rectory Cottage is a prebendal house dating from the mid-15th century. Church House was later used as an almshouse. These examples offer different historical perspectives: building phases at the church, its classification as a prebendal house, and a later use of Church House.

The Joules monuments are memorials commemorating the Joules family, known as “Gypsies” from Somerset. Yatton’s rare oval Royal Mail post box is on the High Street. According to information from North Somerset Council in January 2025, it is one of only 75 surviving examples.
