Truro offers a range of reasons to stay: the cathedral brings its history and architecture to life, the Cornwall Museum & Art Gallery houses more than one million objects, and parks and nature reserves offer their own outdoor appeal. The theatre programme, walking routes and a regular market are also among the options you can consider when planning your time in the city.

Cathedral and Theatre Programme

Truro Cathedral offers tours led by volunteer guides, exploring the building’s history and architecture. Separately scheduled tours of the roof areas may also include a climb to Victoria Tower, with views over Truro. Exact dates can vary; check them if you would like to include a tour in your visit.

Hall for Cornwall adds to this cultural focus with the Cornwall Playhouse: its three-level auditorium hosts the main theatre programme and entertainment offerings. As a point of reference in the city, you can walk through Hall for Cornwall between Boscawen Street and Lemon Quay. The two streets are therefore not just names on a map, but provide a specific landmark for your stay.

Collections at the Cornwall Museum & Art Gallery

In the centre of Truro, the Cornwall Museum & Art Gallery houses more than one million objects. The permanent exhibitions are spread across five galleries: Heart of Cornwall Gallery, Mineral Gallery, Nature Gallery, Art Gallery and Ancient Civilisations Gallery. The names offer an initial guide to the subjects that may interest you most. You can explore the exhibition areas as distinct themes rather than reducing the museum to a single subject.

Gardens, Park and Natural Areas

Victoria Gardens is a public garden just a short walk from the city centre. It was created to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. During the summer months, it also hosts the Summer Bandstand Concert Series, featuring free live music. If you would like to plan a concert visit, check the dates for this seasonal series in advance.

Boscawen Park lies on the River Truro and has scenic riverside walking paths. Its facilities include a children’s play area and a duck pond, as well as tennis courts, an outdoor gym, table tennis and a boules court. The park combines opportunities for walking with several specific leisure facilities, so you need not commit to just one activity.

Daubuz Moor stands out as a six-hectare nature reserve with woodland, wildflower meadows, wetlands and the River Allen. It also offers walking paths and opportunities to observe wildlife. At the southern end, visitors can see the remains of Moresk Mill. Wildlife watching and a historic relic are two distinct aspects of the same area.

Coosebean Woodland also has walking paths, with boardwalks running along the River Kenwyn. The woodland paths, Boscawen Park’s riverside location and Daubuz Moor’s landscape features offer different ways to spend time outdoors. The Newham Trail, by contrast, follows a historic railway line between Newham and New County Hall. Cyclists, families out for a walk, runners and dog walkers use the trail. As trail conditions can change, check them before setting out.

Market and Getting Around

Truro Farmers Market takes place every Wednesday and Saturday at Lemon Quay. Times can change, so check the latest schedule if you plan to visit the market. For rail travel, its location on the main line is a useful point of reference. A branch line also runs from Truro to Falmouth.

Enterprise Boats operates the Falmouth–Trelissick–Tolverne–Malpas/Truro route. Check sailing times and operating days separately if the service is part of your plans. Port of Truro has four free-standing visitor pontoons for vessels up to 18 metres long. Availability and berthing conditions can change; check with the harbour in advance.
