Littlehampton offers several distinct travel interests: East Beach and West Beach each have different coastal features, while the park, miniature railway, Harbour Park and museum add to the picture. When looking for a hotel, you can first consider whether the beach, leisure activities or culture will shape your stay.

East Beach and the seafront

East Beach is a family-friendly sandy and shingle beach more than a mile long. At East Beach, there are grassy areas by the shore used for picnics and ball games. They extend the opportunities for spending time outdoors beyond the beach itself. During the summer season, East Beach is watched over by RNLI lifeguards. If this seasonal surveillance is important for your plans, check the latest information before you travel.

Another coastal highlight is The Long Bench: this public artwork and seafront landmark is 324 metres long and runs along the promenade from the seafront kiosks to the East Beach Café. For travellers wishing to include public art as well as the coast, it is a clearly named destination with precisely described endpoints.

West Beach: dunes and fort ruins

West Beach offers a different landscape focus. It is part of one of only three dune systems in West Sussex; the beach is also home to the ruins of Littlehampton Napoleonic Fort. This destination brings together a distinctive coastal landscape and a named historic structure.

You can reach West Beach by car or on foot via the red bridge opposite the railway station. From the bridge, a 15-minute walk continues along the river. As access conditions can change, check locally for access information before travelling.

Park, railway and leisure activities

Mewsbrook Park has a children's playground, and boat rides are offered on the boating lake in summer. These rides are a seasonal activity. Before travelling, check whether they are operating on your dates.

The Littlehampton Miniature Railway runs from Mewsbrook Park Station through wooded areas and along the seafront to Norfolk Gardens. The railway has been running since 1948. Its route therefore has both clearly named endpoints and its own historical connection. Operating days and times are seasonal.

Harbour Park offers more than 15 attractions, including outdoor rides, amusement arcades, a pirate-themed escape room and an indoor soft-play area. This mix differs from a purely beach-focused stay; the rides and attractions are available seasonally.

Museum and history

Littlehampton Museum is housed in the Grade II listed Manor House. Its galleries cover archaeology, social history, art and natural history. These subjects offer different points of interest if you would like to include a museum visit in your travel plans.

The museum regularly holds Finds Sessions, where visitors can bring in archaeological finds for identification. Dates and booking arrangements can change; bear this in mind if you plan to attend a session.

Getting there by train

Littlehampton is served by regular trains from London Victoria, taking about two hours. There are also train connections from other major cities on the south coast, including Chichester, Portsmouth and Brighton. As service frequencies can change, check the timetable for your travel dates.
