The North Coast Path leads to Rozel, and the Around the Island Walk also began here. Rozel Bay is considered a starting point for a walk; the village has a pub, hotels, a restaurant and a beach café. The history of the paths and the local amenities offer different insights into Rozel. Jersey also offers other coastal and cultural themes to consider when planning your trip.

Walking and path history in Rozel

The North Coast Path runs from L’Etacq in St Ouen to Rozel in St Martin. A section of the path opened in March 2024. This makes it possible to consider Rozel the end point of this route, without conflating it with other walks in the village.

The historical origins of the Around the Island Walk are linked to a different route: on Saturday, 22 June 1991, 15 walkers set off from Rozel at midnight to walk clockwise along the coast of Jersey. This departure marked the creation of the Around the Island Walk. The date, time and number of walkers make the start a specific episode in the history of the walk.

Another walking destination is an ancient dolmen site, reached from Rozel by a challenging uphill walk. If you plan to take this route, check access in advance. In the wider region, St. Catherine’s Breakwater dates from 1847.

Jersey as a wider travel horizon

Jersey offers a variety of coastal scenery: golden sandy bays in the south, Atlantic surf along the west coast, and sheltered bays and hidden tidal pools in the north and east. The Jersey Tidal Trail is a coastal path with high cliffs and golden bays. This island-wide perspective adds other landscape themes to Rozel’s specific connections to walking routes.

Jersey’s walking options also include routes of varying difficulty. Coastal outdoor activities include surfing, stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking. Jersey Heritage offers cultural walks, categorised as coastal, countryside or town walks; check the specific tours available before planning.

Hamptonne is part of Jersey’s history: its main buildings are named after the former owner families Langlois, Hamptonne and Syvret, who lived there from the 15th to the 19th century. The Maritime Museum and Occupation Tapestry Gallery present Jersey’s maritime history and the island’s history during the Second World War.

Culinary interests also have their own connection to the island. The “Flavours of Jersey: Foodie Tour with a Twist” visits the Victorian Central Market in St Helier, where participants sample island produce and selected specialities. Check whether the tour is running before your trip.

If you’re looking for a hotel in Rozel, first consider whether you’d like to focus on local walking routes and Rozel Bay or plan a broader Jersey itinerary.
